I might go try to pawn some earrings I don't wear tonight, I put a copy of the appraisal with them so I can prove I own them. But I have a numberi n my head I don't want less than. I know they'll lowball. Just curious how lowball theymight go...

I pawned a HEAVY gold setting a few years back, because it had bad associations: it weighed a ton, and I got sixty bucks for the metal weight. Oh, how I wish I'd waited for today's gold prices (except, not really, since, bad associations). Generally, unless it's a signed piece, I think you get metal weight and most gems count as a pain in the neck they'll have to break out ....

I've never pawned jewelry but maybe you can call another pawn shop and get a quote about how much you could get. Or pretend you are interested in comparable earrings and see how much they charge for what they have in their cases?

DF did pawn an old platinum band he had from his ex. He got $250 for it. It was nonbranded and about 5-6mm wide. He paid about that much in 2003 for it. I would suggest calling and shopping around. The first place only offered him $150.

Good luck!!! I'm sure there is room for bargaining and haggling, just stay firm to your number.

If they are designer brand, you will get a better price because they can try to resell them. If not, they will probably offer you metal weight + a little for the stones. If you are expecting at least 1/2 of what your appraisal/purchase price is, you will probably be disappointed with their offer.

Have you considered selling on e*bay or Craig list?

Not about pawn but another way to sell: If you have a local/regional reputable auction house that handles fine jewelry, you can consign them setting your reserve price. It doesn't guarantee a sale but it assures no loss to you.

I pawned a gold chain and gold ring that I got from an ex...I think I got only about $100 combined. I didn't really care, though, since that was the very last thing that I had to get rid of to get him out of my life completely.

I don't go near Craigslist, and I did look on Ebay for anything similar.

I know I won't get anywhere NEAR appraised value, but I do have a number Ill hopefully get near, and it's not high, but it's not free either. The numberi n my head is maybe 1/5 of appraised value.

No one wants them for consignment. They sat for months, and I've listed them online a few places to no avail. No one wants to pay for platinum and diamonds, and its gotten nowhere. They are not branded.

Would you be up to post a picture of the earrings or describe them? If they are platinum would it be worth it to seperste the mount from the stone and sell separate? How large are the diamonds?

Probably 4 or 5pt stones. Total weight is about .90 and I tihnk there are 12 stones per earrings?

All I know about it is that it's like a "classifieds" for jewelry. Mostly people from a few diamond and jewelry forums, it's an offshoot of a site that sells simulants.

There is pawn shop in south city that has a decent amount of jewelry. I would think that would be your best bet. It seems most the other pawn shops in our town pretty much suck.
I've had the best luck selling jewelry at Chesterfield coin and Jewelry. Not a pawn shop, but they do have a decent preowned jewelry section and seem to offer a good price. I recently took in plat antigue e ring mounting (pretty thin). It has 6 3 pt'rs and 6 1 pointers. It would have to be scrapped because it was pretty damaged. Anyway I think they gave me $185 for it..or around there.

You may have to email me the address for that.

I tried two pawn shops this afternoon. One said $125. For PLATINUM AND DIAMOND EARRINGS. And the other said "the workmanship is so bad that I can only give scrap. And really you should just keep em if that's all you'll get". I assume that was her way of saying "im not giving you money for these". The workmanship really isn't bad. Obnoxious.
