Aside from platinum being more dense and heavier than gold, in fine jewelry, 18k gold is just 75% gold with other alloys, while platinum jewelry is either 90 or 95% platinum. That's the other reason platinum jewelry generally costs more. I prefer platinum for any diamond jewelry I have had made since it is a naturally white metal.
