White gold guilloche tarnish?

What bothered me more than the tarnishing on the influencer’s (ticktoker’s) bracelet was how VCA handled the situation. I wish they stood behind their product especially that she had worn it for only two months.
I am interested in the 10 motif guilloche yg and I am now hesitant.
I don't have tiktok - saw something about in on IG and YouTube. Crazy they told her they don't see anything wrong with it. That kind of customer service turns me off. And it was on a yg bracelet correct?

Yes it was on a yellow gold guilloche. The entire encounter was bizarre. One would be forgiving if it was just a defective piece. But not standing behind their product is crazy.

I have read where some people have body chemistry that causes the rhodium plating to wear off faster. I’ve had lots of white gold pieces and no issue with any of The pieces save one, which looked kinda dull. It’s old, over 10 years old. I’m not surprised, it’s quite worn. I probably should get it replated but I don’t care enough to. Given my personal experience I am fine with their WG. Generally speaking I find VCA’s WG more long lastingly shinier than other brands, cartier, Bulgari, and other nonbranded WG. But that is just MY experience. Evaluate various people’s experiences and make your own decision based on your own risk tolerances and situation.

i pre-ordered my YG Guillioche bracelet and now wondering if I should get a refund..
I love it but also worried about it oxidizing/tarnishing and them being unable to help fully!

I would return it if you are within the return window. Not worth the headache because all jewelry tarnishes even white gold. 18k YG is a soft yellow color. I see people wearing reddish gold or bright yellow gold, and they claim their gold doesn’t tarnish when in fact it has shown oxidation while they are wearing them. SMH

I think tarnish, oxidation are all the same. If you wear out a WG piece with rhodium plating, eventually it will tarnish - and a polish and a rhodium replating is needed. Ideally gold needs cleaning to avoid oxidation build up.

Best way to see if your piece has tarnished would be to put it next to a newer piece before cleaning. Also everyone’s ph is different. Different alloys react differently with people’s skin / sweat. YG and RG are 18 carat mixed with other alloys like copper.
I see more discussions of this in the Rolex and Cartier thread.

I am in the same dilemma regarding the 10 motif yg guilloche. I am aware that no piece of jewelry looks as good as new and they may lose their shine, scratch or dent etc.

However, I am yet to see a tarnished 18k gold (or even 14k). Some say the alloys tarnish but I am confident that a high quality piece wouldn’t tarnish even though there are alloys mixed. I have never seen it on a Cartier piece or any gold piece (no matter how old the piece was or how often it was worn).

I contacted VCA online customer service yesterday and asked specifically about the 10 motif yellow gold guilloche piece and whether it tarnishes or not. The agent was vague about it and I didn’t get a clear answer. I have the 5 motif guilloche but I haven’t worn it much to judge (as I plan to attach it to a 10 motif so didn’t want to scratch it). Part of me is telling me to go ahead with the purchase while the other part is telling me to go back to Cartier.

My advice would be to evaluate what you are willing to put up with should it tarnish.

Did you pay in full? Are they willing to give you a refund?
Yeah I’m so torn as well because I see so many influencers and they have no issues!! It’s like a gamble.
How long have you had your bracelet for?
And yes to Cartier - I’m wondering if I should just get another love instead lol!
I feel like if it does tarnish they might just gaslight you like this girl. I asked my SA as well and she said she can’t comment on the situation

I have not inquired about a refund yet as I am still trying to decide. I just wish VCA would provide some sort of explanation of what had actually happened with that tarnished bracelet.
I have had my bracelet for a year but haven’t worn it much, so it looks as good as new. I wanted to preserve its shine so I can attach it to the 10 motif necklace.

I wish the purchase from VCA is as smooth as it is with Cartier.

It really depends on the individual. As you can see, the piercing area developed ‘rust’ on this Cartier earring.

Usually this gentle polishing cream does the trick - not sure if it was reformulated. My friends love it! Ultrasonic or dishwashing soap and water won’t work.

And an extra soft toothbrush.

Used to be $6. Thanks tariffs.

I’m not sure if the two bottom links work; I’m using the Amazon app. One is called Sunshine polishing cream (uses fruit extracts from what I remember.. super gentle) and the other Suree toothbrush. Soak it in.. you’ll see the oxidation come off when the cream turns black.

If the white gold tarnishes, you’ll definitely need replating of the rhodium. The polishing creams or polishing cloth won’t work. Some people are sweaty enough to see yellow (tarnish) after regular wear. My SA had a WG with diamond love bracelet, and she had hers rhodium plated again after 10 years of daily wear. All depends on the person.

I don’t think I ever read of anyone replating their piece in rhodium in the VCA threads though. I only heard of it in the Cartier tpf threads. Most people who spend a fortune on VCA do baby their pieces - clean, put away in wolf containers or special ziplock bags. It is a piece of art.

i would go so far as to say, don’t even try to use polishing creams or cloths on rhodium, ever. The plating is thin and rhodium is brittle. Soap and a washcloth or gentle toothbrush are fine though. I wouldn’t do more than that for rhodium.

I buy a jewelry cleaning solution from Amazon - so that wouldn't be safe to use?
