I follow both Amie and Chriselle. Chriselle was super famous before Tiktok - she has been a multimillion dollar worth influencer for years now.
Amie is a snooze...
As for Chriselle: yes what you say is true, but ever since TikTok her followers on instagram have shot up and her content feels much different. I doubt she was worth as much before... I know the house she lives in—it’s nice but nothing grand like some other influencers here in LA. I’m sure gaining popularity from the younger generation on TikTok helped her a lot.
I don’t know... started getting on my nerves too ever since she’s been taking her daughter for riding lessons once a week in the area I live. Shows up in expensive clothing to take pictures of herself while her daughter rides. Keeps going on how she’s a “barn mom” and “lives at the barn” now... as an equestrian it bothers me haha. Like taking a picture in front of someone else’s expensive car to get the rich vibe and saying #FerarriLife. All of us are in breeches and tall boots with our horses and she comes in her free Dior dresses that drag in the dirt so she can get her pics. I guess that’s the influencing game though. Plus she doesn’t even tag the barn to help them advertise while she’s using them for vibes.
But hey these people with million+ followers certainly aren’t hurting from me not wanting to follow them lol!

I’m just so skeptical about anything influencers say or post about now. I’ll scroll through feeds and see what styles and new things I like but I don’t follow or watch any particular person religiously.

Yes, I've been a long time Chriselle follower but less enamored with her content lately. The equestrian posing gets on my nerves a little bit too - it's too much.

The whole scene you just described is just pathetic. How tone deaf and out of touch can a person be.... I'm sure she diligently tagged Dior and all the brands she wore while taking photos, but didn't have any common decency to at least tag the barn she was visiting.

I agree! It’s not a large portion of her content, but I just feel like seeing this small bit firsthand makes me realize how staged everything with influencers must be. That the lifestyle/person an influencer portrays is most likely not reality.
She tags exactly like you say; location never tagged but brands are! It’s the Peninsula Riding Club located in Rolling Hills Estates, CA.

How absolutely awful. This would totally get on my nerves if she was at my barn! I can totally understand how you feel.

Sophie Shohet and Geek is chic are the only two I trust.

I like fashion Jackson’s style, but she is a walking advert banner. I found it really distasteful esp. early on the pandemic when she just promoted stuff. Also don’t think she claims it all either that she’s getting paid and sponsorship.

Chase Amie is a walking advert too, all her content is about sales, discount, promotions, etc. Also she lives in the UK, but seems to put a lot of stuff on American sales. That just tells me she’s after clicks via her affiliate links, promos and sponsorships.

I now skip over the ‘advert’ portion of the clip. Nothing on YouTube seems genuine any more.

Have you tried the "smaller" influencers or those who are newer to YT? I find @Je.suis.lou and @blackandgoldstyle to be really genuine, no adverts or anything.

I lost my remaining respect towards chase amie when she partnened with c*****e, a company with a shady history of selling fakes. You know it's bad when the name of the company is in asterisks in tpf. Beware!

Lol my point about Chriselle Lim doing way better after getting famous on Tik Tok/Instagram stands... her house is now for sale and is she’s looking for a new place. House was purchased 2016 for $1.45m and she’s asking $1.65m.

A few years ago I used to try to watch Chase Amie not because her style is at all interesting but because she had a couple of reviews of bags I thought I might like. But the way she talks straight through every video without ever once taking a breath of air drove me bananas. I was never interested in her promotions/recommendations.

These are the ones I tend to trust (if one can speak of trust in any online scenario) and that's not to say I'd go out and spend money on something just because they recommended an item or flashed a coupon code; it's that they each seem real (in their own way) and straightforward, and at least one facet of their style/wardrobe overlaps with the stuff I like:

I enjoy Sophie Shohet for her genuine personality and comforting manner. Wenwen Stokes has an ecclectic style and always has some unusual finds to show. Cassie Thorpe is an absolute hoot, her sense of humour cracks me up. I still watch Lalli Mirza, Tamara Kalinic, and Claire Chanelle just because their life$tyles seem so decadent. Style Hard is down to earth and I like her high-low mix of things. Jonathan Lucca is rather new to YT, has a nice bag collection and sweet personality. KarenBritChick is another enjoyable personality, and I've been a year-long follower of Lissy in the City, a real person in my age bracket I can relate to.
[OT: not an influencer but highly recommended: the best fashion commentator on YT imho is Loic Prigent. His long videos are an absolute treat and researched in great detail.]

I agree on Loic Prigent. The production value is high which I appreciate but he is also established journalist and a documentary maker outside of youtube and pretty much a fashion insider over a decade now. I loved his documentary series 'The Day Before' which debuted back in 2009. His youtube videos has the same style. Through the 2009 series I got introduced to the duo of Proenza Schouler, Chanel's and Jean Paul Gaultier's Houte Couture and Sonia Rykiel.

Another shout out to karenbritchick who is also a personal favourite and the most recent addition to my following list. I love her style and I can sense that she loves what she does.
