EXACTLY!! Feels fake to me too and I really it is 'processed' / cut with something. They won't admit it, but one day, it will come out.

It's no big secret. All "saffiano" type leathers are heavily coated and then embossed to give them their scratch-resistant texture. The piece of leather underneath can be of various quality which is hard to determine for the customer. That's why you find this type of leather at all price points, from Target to Louis Vuitton. But they are not all equal. One may be made with the cheaper cuts of the skin while others will be made from top quality and even calfskin.

Thank you! That is the best explanation I have heard so far and relates to my suspicions. It possibly being a lesser grade of leather that is processed.makes sense. All I know is that it is nothing like the genuine leather I am accustomed to as a Harley rider for over 30 years. We practically LIVE in our leathers and thank God, it's not saffiano! lol! We'd all look like a bunch of boxed up robots or the Tin Man on the Wizard of Oz!

Lol you cracked me up all the time!!!

I have to admit, on some bags, like the Hamilton, it really does work better . I guess it is all a matter of ones preferences. I love seeing how much, so many enjoy it. If it makes you happy than go for it! It's all what YOU like and nothing else matters.

Saffiano:heart:! I need my bags to have structure, especially if I'm using them for school to carry my laptop or textbooks. Also I like that saffiano requires less care, I'm quite tough on my bags. I also love the crosshatched texture, which I know some people hate. The only bags I own in "other" leathers (i.e.: caviar, lambskin, pebbled, etc.) are SLGs such as crossbodys or wristlets.

the saffiano leather, in my opinion is too stiff though durable, and stain proof. I prefer the soft leather but good luck finding any. When I finally broke down to buy my hamilton for Christmas last year, I was dismayed to find that the purse did not come in the soft leather any more. I had to purchase it second hand in good condition. I love her and have to be very careful as the soft leather does stain very easily but I love the buttery soft feel. It just looks more plush. I do like the saffiano in other styles like the selma but soft leather for the hamilton for me is a go.

This! Even though it might not be the prettiest or highest quality leather, Saffiano is brilliant for abuse and carrying heavy stuff in it.
I definitely do appreciate soft leather bags but I have hardly any use for them, personally.
I actually "downgraded" from my Hermes bags to LV canvas, MK Saffiano, and TB & Furla leather bags. After I turned 35, I finally figured out that bags should suit my lifestyle (kind of late, I know :D ) and my lifestyle is carrying and dragging around the weight of two little boys. I personally don't have use for a bag which weighs as much as another child :sweatdrop:
