LOL i knew your answer.

Prada started the Saffiano so i don't think it being lower grade is the issue, it's just different as i said my dh does not like it, he's actually kinda mean about his opinion so i won't go there as to not offend others.

For those not in the know they don't think it is leather, that is his issue too. He thinks leather is the soft, smells like a tack shop type(sorry for the horsey comparison)

The bag you show is definitely structured for leather but they are less common and most leather ones are slouchy which some dislike.

I am an equal opportunity one.. i like my Saffiano for care free, no fuss, muss but enjoy my leather where the smell reminds me of my childhood in tack shops and the tack being tended to at home. ;)
My husband doesn't like the saffiano either. He is an old Harley rider and has dealt with leather all his life. He insists saffiano is cut with something and doesn't believe it's 100% leather.

He has been working with leather all his life. He redoes saddle bags, jackets, chaps, even the seats on the bikes that are leather. This leather goes through hell! It gets hit by rocks, bugs, rain and even hail and somehow it still looks great. All the leather on his bike, which is just regular cowhide, has sat outside in the sun, been rained on, you name it! Leather is VERY tough and that's why us riders use it and won't ride without it. We use it for protection and for comfort. All this paranoia over it getting scratched too easily??? Well, the only thing we are scratching, is our heads! lol! And thank God we don't have saffiano jackets! lol! Leather is super tough and can outlive all of us. You can even wash it , wet it, shape it, bend it. It really stands the test of time.

For sure it's like tack, it gets all kinds of nasty but good leather saddles, halters etc last forever and can be redone.

The scratching of the leather i do understand but it's Character .. it's never meant to be perfection that is what makes it all so unique.

EXACTLY!! Feels fake to me too and I really it is 'processed' / cut with something. They won't admit it, but one day, it will come out.
Saffiano leather is embossed with a cross-hatch pattern and treated to be stain/rain repellent, so it is "cut with something" and "processed," if that is what you are referring to.

Maybe that's it, but it sure doesn't feel like the leather I am used to. I just wonder why it is less expensive than the soft leather bags and why they don't use it at all in the MKC bags?? Something fishy they are not revealing. It will come out eventually. JMO

I like regular leather. I love the texture and the softness of it. Saffiano just feels fake to me.

+1 Agree

I prefer pebbled grain calf leather. Love the texture & how the bag relaxes to its form. I'm more the soft leather type rather than stiff. First time I heard about Saffiano leather, I had to research it. I thought it was faux leather!

There is another thread on this topic already in the Handbag forum. THREE pages of opinions on it! The majority prefer soft leather and many think the same thing I do, that it is cut with something, others state nor sure. Is an interesting thread! I commented in it about 4 months ago!

yep, did too.. originally i didn't have much thought in the positive with it until i bought an item with it, again it has it's purpose i just wouldn't want all my bags in it, i am accustomed to leather... My main purse at the moment is a glove tanned Coach satchel... i also own a ton of Roots purses..which to explain if you are unaware.. top grade leathers handmade in Toronto.
