Did you mean literally thrown in the wash? We can do that with these bags?
Yep, threw her in the washer with a weeeeee bit detergent (no softener!) and used the wool program or something for delicate fabrics, can't remember. But it took about two hours and the bag came out dripping wet.
I couldn't put her on the drying rack like this, so had to use the spinning program. I was biting my nails at this point...
After two days the bag was completely dry. Leather looked and felt terrible. Then only six months later I started resuscitation. Haha.

I wouldn't recommend doing it, lol. And definitely not with any colored bags. But our Bals can definitely take a lot more than we give them credit for. Those bags are very resilient.

Apparently Coach bags can take a washing, though probably not in the washer. I agree it's riskier with colored bags. Can't believe how perfect yours turned out.

Ha, I had given up on getting rid of the smell, so this was a very dumb and desperate move. I honestly didn't believe she could be salvaged with some standard leather lotion. Not after all this time.

Some people have washed Coach bags in the washer with success. It depends on how bad they are. The washer tumbles them around so I imagine they would get scratched up. Most vintage all leather Coach bags end up much better after a bath.

A pillow case can help preventing the bag from getting scratched up in the washer. I didn't even think of that...
But a good soak and gentle scrubbing in the sink may be better. Next time, lol.

Back when they sold vintage Coaches in the 80s, they came with instructions for washing them with soap and water. They recommended saddle soap but Coach rehabbers usually use dish soap. Some put vinegar in the rinse. It protects against mold. Usually it is best to start applying conditioner before the bag is completely dry. It seems to soak it up better.
