Why should quality improve when we as consumers continue to accept flaws on merchandise priced in the thousands of dollars? Until we as consumers hold the vendor liable for subpar merchandise Chanel will continue with price increases and low quality control of consumer goods. Loss of revenue speaks volumes, negative media attention speaks volumes.
YES, this is exactly what I keep saying too...we vote with our wallets. If you are buying a bag with subpar quality, you are unfortunately contributing to the problem of the subpar quality continuing to be produced alongside annual price increases of $500 - $1000 a year.
Some of the bags I see from the boutiques from the last few seasons have been absolutely appalling and in the past, they never would've even made it onto the shelves and certainly never sold to a customer.
It is so disturbing to see bags with grommets in the wrong place, crooked flaps, crooked turn locks, bags that are sloped inward and basically collapsing in on themselves, classic double flaps shaped on the top and with folded sides like reissues, wrinkled leather, popped stitches, black dots or other marks, and other issues I can't even recall right now...and customers are still purchasing these bags?
I could maybe understand if a new customer might not know any better, but for customers that have loved and purchased Chanel for years - is it that you don't notice, or just don't care?
I used to be able to go into Chanel and not have to even look for any sort of flaw because the bags were always perfect (or close enough to it). Now I don't even feel comfortable with a pre-order/reserve & 50% deposit because I need to look and inspect the bag before I decide to purchase. I refuse to buy a bag that has any major quality issues because I just know it will bother me forever and I don't want to contribute to the problem. If I miss out on a specific color because of that, then so be it.
Classic flaps are absolutely going to surpass 10k at the current rate, and very quickly too.
At an increase rate of $500 - $1000 a year, in 5 years we will be at best right below 10k and at worst around 12k for a medium classic flap.
The
least they can do is go back to producing bags that are well constructed.
