What's your unpopular jewelry opinion?

I’m all for buying yourself stuff but I wish they’d let up with this obvious consumerism is feminism lite crap.

I was reading about a brand only the other day and it actually said ‘in 2013, women started buying themselves jewels rather than waiting for men.’ This alone was so ludicrous I instantly got turned off their products. Please stop trying to sell me trinkets under the guise there’s something political about it especially with such a blatant ignorance of social history - it’s so annoying.

Also +1 on wet thread bracelets though they are nice as anklets.
Brand, please.

It took me a while to get here but after much thought I’ve decided I’m not a fan of the bulgari serpenti design for jewelry. It’s ok stacked alone but with other jewelry because it’s not symmetrical it never looks quite right. The price point is also crazy now given the number of increases. It’s bulgari not cartier or vca. If I’m recalling correctly this has gone up nearly 10k in 3-4 years. That’s insanity.

My unpopular opinion is that I hate when jewelry houses offer many of their core pieces in rose gold or white gold only (thinking of Bvlgari, Chaumet, Piaget, even Harry Winston). I love rose gold on others but my skin has a lot of pink in it so it doesn’t work on me. There are lots of pieces I’m totally in love with, but can’t purchase because they come in rose gold only! Core pieces should be offered in all 3 gold colors, I need that yellow gold option.

My unpopular opinion is that I have to build up jewelry pieces in white, yellow, and rose. I feel that life is too short and aesthetics are too limited when someone commits to wearing only yellow gold pieces for the rest of their life, and calls it a day. I try to change up my metal colors every few weeks.

It’s funny because I actually like all the colors of gold (and platinum). However, even though I slightly prefer yellow gold to rose gold in theory, in practice I have probably twice the amount of rose gold pieces to yellow gold, just because the brands I’m interested in don’t offer a specific piece in yellow gold. Or don’t add the yellow version until many years later. I’m thinking Cartier ecrou, Tiffany T1…

But for Harry Winston, I feel like they have very few rose gold pieces. Everything seems to be platinum and yellow gold. I haven’t seen a collection of theirs that is offered only in rose and platinum/white. Gates and HW logo are the only collections where I see rose gold options. But those also have yellow gold as an option.

For Piaget, I love the sunlight collection, but feel like it would be more thematic to have the line in yellow gold. But apparently Piaget doesn’t use yellow gold. Or very rarely does so. And it’s been that way for over a decade… So I guess it’s a rose gold brand.

I’ve always thought of Bulgari as a rose gold brand, even before rose gold became mainstream, so it doesn’t surprise me that they have so much rose gold. I used to think of Cartier as a yellow gold brand, but today it seems like most of their offerings come in rose gold.

I’m more annoyed that jewelry brands increasingly stopped using platinum for their designs and started using white gold instead. The fact that Harry Winston and Graff now have white gold pieces, when in the past I never saw that as an option. Tiffany, too, has started using white gold more. I learned that the Victoria collection, which used be exclusively platinum, now has some white gold pieces, such as the Victoria key. It’s a very disappointing evolution to me.

Even in high jewelry, I’m increasingly seeing that these companies are using white gold more and more in lieu of platinum. Sadly, most customers probably don’t even know what platinum is, or care that white gold is being used as a substitute.

I love the way cord bracelets look as they bring color and texture to a bracelet stack. For me, they look fun, not cheap. I have 2 and I’m eyeing a third one!

But I have to agree they feel awful when they are wet.
I guess I'm the only one that doesn't notice my Cartier cord bracelet when it's wet, maybe because I think the cord is silk and it dries quickly? I dunno. :shrugs:

I've had mine since 2019 and it has held up great, wear it 24/7 except for the couple of times taking it off for surgery.

Same! Not only that but I'm terrified of snakes so having snake inspired jewelry...just no!

Mine are cotton so they stay wet for a long time :/
