What's with all the fake Gucci on eBay lately?

That's all well and good, but unless someone is extremely, extremely, extremely naive, if they are buying on eBay, they know the risk they're taking with buying counterfeit goods.

I'm just saying that if you know you're playing with fire, then I don't feel sorry when or if you get burned. If you're not willing to get burned, then don't play with fire. Why should I feel bad for someone who knowingly took that kind of risk? I honestly don't see anything mean about that.

If someone doesn't realize the risk of buying counterfeit goods on eBay, then I would suggest that person take some more time to learn about shopping and the internet before buying anything online ever again.
One point so obvious that I have to make it. Buying on eBay isn't playing with fire. Taking crack from a stranger on the corner is playing with fire. Buying a preloved bag...not so much.

Hmmmm....

I still marvel at the harshness over something as inconsequential as handbags.

In any case, I hope you are always fully informed at an expert level with every fashion, home, health, lifestyle, relationship, career, money, parenting, etc. decision you make. And I also hope you never, ever look for empathy or support when you make a mistake or someone is unfair to you.

Because if not, karma is a harsh mistress and someone who is well learned in that area where you find yourself on the wrong side of the coin may dish you out the same "you should have known better" mantra vs giving you the empathy, help or second chance you need.

Be well on your journey. (And I am being honest. Some of us are actually nice. LOL!)

I'm not. But see, I know who to blame when I make a mistake that was easily foreseen and could have been easily prevented.

And I don't expect people to feel sorry for me when I make stupid decisions regarding spending money on luxury goods.

EVERYBODY HERE knows the danger of buying a luxury purse on eBay. The wording of your statement above even seems to indicate that you are fully aware of the difficulty of being informed of the authenticity of goods on eBay. If that's where you choose to buy from, then you accept the risk.

That being said, if you find that your material desire outweighs the possible risk of losing thousands of dollars, then that's entirely your fault and nobody else's. I don't know why I should or would feel sorry for someone who willingly loses thousands of dollars because of their materialism. The only honest condolences in that situation would be "I'm sorry you were stupid with your money."

This is not being harsh. This is being realistic.

BTW, comparing parenting decisions with buying a purse on eBay? Um, okay. I guess I'm understanding the level of materialism here and exactly why people find what I'm saying to be so grossly offensive...

I've been a member of eBay for over 15 years now and have sold countless of luxury items once I was ready to part with them (mostly bags and shoes). None of them were ever fake, but always pre-owned so usual with hefty discount. Plus, it's illegal to sell counterfeit items anyway. So I don't think it's such a crazy idea to shop on eBay and actually expect authentic product...

I 100% condemn the sellers trying to scam a customer, and not the poor customer. There are multitude of reasons one would chose to shop on eBay - the bag could have been sold out in stores, or maybe gucci.com doesn't ship to their country, or it was few hundred $ cheaper (and it doesn't matter how much money one has - few hundred $ saving is still few hundred $ saving)... So calling someone stupid because they were scammed seems completely backwards.
But anyway... to each his own.

You would think they would with all the money they are charging.

They just can't fork over that cost, it might just bankrupt them. :p:p:p

Agreed, I think the mentality of most people shopping on ebay are the same. Hoping to get a discount on the same item that they see in store or online, whether its because they can't afford the item at full price, or don't want to buy the same item for retail when they can get it for lower. But they also have to do their homework. Some of the cards that these sellers were providing are so outragiously fake. I do feel bad for people who get duped into thinking what they purchased was real. I think at the same time that someone can do the homework on trying to see if the item is real, some of the fakes are so good that its hard to compare until you have the exact item on hand that you can compare. I was looking at some superfake chanel and trying to figure out if they are fake to test my eye, from the photos they looks exactly like my chanel, until i started comparing my chanel with the pictures and started noticing small discrepancies.
