What's the biggest carat weight you'd go for studs?

@chanellover333...what did you buy?
I have 3 types of diamond stud earrings.

#1 My best pair that I've worn for years. WG/G/VS1/ideal cut/5.17 tcw
#2 OEC WG/F/SI1/4.3 tcw Love the cut!
#3 studs with small diamond rim YG/G/SI1/3.97 tcw

My advice would be to get the biggest carat weight, best color, clarity, but most importment the cut that you can afford!
Diamond shrinkage is very real, especially in studs! Trust me :annoyed:

Over the last decade I’ve learned to always listen to sky queen and swanky. I bought 4 ctw (not my normal quality but to see how I felt) and the shrinking syndrome is real because now 2 ctw feels too small. 😂😂 glad I know now!! If I didn’t see how I felt I would have regretted it in a couple of years I’m sure.

Once I finally do my lobe surgery early next year, I am going to splurge on RB 4 ctw and emerald studs. 🙌🏽🙌🏽

I totally agree. @skyqueen was so helpful when I was looking for my “forever” studs. I love ovals, and wanted at least 2.0 carats total weight. Her expertise was welcomed and, I was able to purchase what I wanted.
Since ovals present larger, they look more like 2.5 carats. I’m truly in love with them. I haven’t experienced shrinking syndrome with my earrings. Now my tennis bracelet, the shrinking syndrome totally got me LOL!

I was hesitating between 6ct (total) or 5ct. Went for 5ct as I want to wear studs everyday in every condition, so prefer 2.5ct (martini prong). The first few months the studs didn't hold straight and kind of were downwards, so I started looking for solutions for better back support. So I found Chrysmela Discs. These are game changers, I really recommend! Super safe to use. Studs are safely secured.Screenshot 2025-01-15 at 22.03.58.png

It’s what I use for mine as well, love them!

Can I ask how much they were ? Looking into VC now
I’m not who you asked, but diamond prices will vary a lot even in the same carat size. The specific cut quality, color, and clarity level all affect the price. So without all of those details, the cost for one person’s studs is unlikely to be super helpful. Hope you get some studs you love! :flowers:

I went this weekend and tried on various sizes. I apparently have small ears and my piercing is low on my ear so I cannot go bigger than 3ct total without them hanging below my ear lobe, which for me is a deal breaker as I do not care for that look. The good news is that my fiancé was prepared to spend quite a bit more for larger studs so now we've got some extra money in the valentine budget so maybe I will also get a bag! :)

MeredithP1 - I am so glad you posted this. My husband just gifted me diamond studs for my birthday. Figuring out size drove me absolutely crazy because I’m a bigger-is-better diamond girl (with quality). I was ready for some 4ctw studs. Not only were all of the iterations across size maddening (color and cut differing among sizes - trying to find the perfect combo of color and clarity) but the disappointment to see that not everyone can pull off huge studs. I have small ear lobes too and the biggest I could go without the diamond dropping below the bottom of my lobe was also 3ctw. Everyone we work with at our jeweler talked me out of anything above that 1.5 each ear size as they thought it overwhelmed my ear and looked silly. There are some ladies who can rock those huge studs because they have more lobe real estate. I love my new studs but the entire process was a learning experience as to how size matters with studs as a proportion to the ear.
Congrats on your earrings!
