A lot of great feedback about cleaning brass or replacing through LV. If the price was really great, I’d live with it. The vachetta looks really good so I can see why you were focusing more on that.
They'll need to rip apart the leather and replace that too to remove the hardware. That would hold me back. Also the patina is too beautiful.
My guess is that no matter what caused the discolouration, it can be undone, but very carefully, not to damage the leather.
It really looks like thatOk so it just got delivered and it is 100% plating peeled off the hardware. Brasso or other polish will not fix. Idk if I should go back on eBay and say item not as described. This was not listed in the listing, just the pic I posted and she knew this piece of hardware is destroyed there is no fixing the finish

It really looks like thatSo sad to see.
Technically it is possible to cover it again, but that requires a chemistry lab and a special acid bath, so nothing accessibleAnd also the disassembling of the leather strap
So a Vuitton repair again seems to be the better option. The patina will be lost though. Unless you feel comfortable using it as is.
I don't know the repair prices for this bag, but since most of the leather on it is the strap, it wouldn't surprise me if they'd swap it for 400+ dollars or more. With that, it seems less of a good deal![]()
On the thumbnail it did look perfect, but from closer, not so muchSo aside from every brass cleaner imaginable I ordered a brass Mylar film tape and stuck some on there. Thoughts? Better than before I guess. I contacted her and told her I feel it's very wrong for her to leave out the only flaw on this bag from the description
That would bother me. Is it noticeable from far away because close you can tell there is tape or something on there…

It is not bad, I do not think anyone is going to notice. I would go to an LV store and see if they can fix it, you may have to pay foe repair and may take some time but if it gives you a peace of mind I think it is worth it. You can also try a luxury leather repair shop that specializes in LV and see what they recommended, maybe they can replace it cheaper and faster than LV would. A lot of times you can just email pics and they can give you a quote and you can even ship it to them.
If LV couldn’t fix it would you still keep it?if it doesn’t bother you it may be worth keeping? The bumbag is so hard to find and if the canvas and vachetta are nice it may be worth just keeping? Thanks I'm going to try LV. Rest of the bag is great really. I am positive it happens from spraying the leather bc the leather looks treated, has patina but no spots and I got water on it and it didn't leave a mark so I think the previous owner sprayed that piece of hardware by mistake and realized. Hopefully they can replace if
So after realizing that LV repair could take up to 6 months and I didn't want to have to replace the whole vachetta strap and have it not match the rest of the bag....and reminding myself that I kind of wanted to use this bag as a beater anyway, I pulled off the Mylar tape (which matched really well but didn't really lay flat), pulled off whatever I could or the remaining original plating, and spray painted the piece of hardware and this is how it came out. It is more matte and less shiny so not a perfect match but at least it should stay put a while. I'm fine with this. Not ideal but whatever. I'm ok with it.
