What started your bag addiction

Hey kids.
I'm the new guy in town so don't rough me up too bad.
I just thought I would share my experience in this thread if anyone is interested.

I'm actually a straight guy. Purses have become a hobby of mine. It all started when a friend wanted to save some money. She asked me to shop online for gently used brand name bags. I started my research and eventually learned the brands, styles and price points. I found there were lots of opportunities to slam offers on some really nice bags that were never used. I guess this strategy performed well because I now shop for quite a few women in my circle. To say I know more about purse fashion than all combined would probably be a true statement. And I've actually started on shoes but don't know enough just yet.

Since then I have found myself looking at almost every bag I pass. Being a straight guy, maybe that's not normal, but whatever. Having purse shopped so much, I even bought a few bags for myself. My favorite is F10909 from Coach. I also have a Coach 9541. I don't get the opportunity to use them very often because society always stares no matter which bag I carry. I always take a bag when traveling though. There are usually so many distractions and possibilities in airports that few people ever notice. I had a flight attendant walk by once when I was using my 9541. She just smiled and probably assumed I was gay but hey whatever. I actually tried using my 9541 a few months ago. I went to a store around closing time with a friend of mine. There were only a few customers inside but a woman that was shopping the aisles froze when she made eye contact with me. She then started following behind us, peaking from other aisles and sticking her head around corners in disbelief. I mean it's just a bag and I really only buy black, brown or camel colors. It's not like I was sporting a bright coral colorblock. Although, I probably would if I could. I actually wouldn't mind a leatherware top handle from a few years ago in multicolor but that's an unneeded challenge. I think I can rock some bags pretty good despite my size. My build isn't exactly petite so that probably doesn't help with acceptance. Anyway, I'm mostly a hobo and soho kind of guy but like some totes and satchels. No matter which bag I choose, they probably won't be considered conforming to men for a long time. Oh well. Psychology is amazing and purses are awesome. I don't care what anyone says
I wonder why men DON'T usually carry bags! Men must have things to carry around, well actually I know they do because I can't tell you how many times I have been asked "Can you please put this in your bag? Oh wait do you mind holding my cigarettes too? And the lighter? Oh one more thing it's just a bottle of Zantac in case my stomach bothers me. Thanks. Um can you hold the keys too? Thanks hon."
Buy your own bag lol.
Sorry you get looks from people but good for you for carrying whatever you want!

So what started this extreme interest in bags was THIS forum. I bought a bag and googled the bag and found a thread here. Then I hung around and decided to make it a goal to buy only soft, slouchy leather bags. Never paid much attention to leather before I came here. I can't spend a lot of money but some people here said that Kooba, Botkier, Linea Pelle, Hayden Harnett and Gustto had the softest leather so that's what I bought. All pre-loved and definitely not on trend, (who cares). I realized that I REALLY loved leather! I love all of my bags. Maybe some day I will be able to buy a new one but if not, that's OK.

What, no Bals? The leather is so soft and smoothy on the older bags ( '05 thru 07 especially ) Like a baby's bottom and you can get a pre-owned for a good price.

Im bogged down holding all of my husband's crap constantly! He would never carry a man's saddle bag or anything like that because if I ask him to hold my purse he holds it by his fingertips like it has barf or poo on it with a devil wears Prada face so I'm positive he wouldnt LOL! My dad has a coach crossbody from the men's line that he uses if he's doing a lot of walking-he's 66 and has his phone wallet etc in it.

Funny. Three years ago, someone sold me her Gucci Princy Tote for 13 USD. Yes 13 USD. And it's legit Gucci. I had it repainted, wore it and sold it. Now I am an addict.

It was my celine luggage medium. I spent 1790 EUR at that time and I was shocked how amzing the quality was in compare with my other bags (at that time my most expensive bag was a Ralf Laurent bag for 60 EUR), but the price was just not for salary at that time (freshly gratuated and just found my first job and I had to save for 5 months) and then I think I bought only my second high-end bag only after a year so something which was a speedy 35 B. Still love both bags :)

My bag addiction started because I was purse shamed! I decided at that moment to buy myself some premier bags & that is actually when I found tPF. I should have joined back then, I would be an OG by now. I thought by not joining I would avoid the slippery slope of addiction
That happened to me, too! I was shamed by my boss. He somehow managed not to see the relationship between the quality of my bag and my salary.

How terrible to be purse shamed! Some people have absolutely no tact.

Nothing really started my purse addiction. I've loved purses ever since I was a young child. I started carrying little purses when I was four.
