Welcome aboard! Your story made me happy for you and sad for people in general.

You love great bags. That has zero to do with gender and sexual orientation. I'm a super girly woman who loves pink and sparkles. But I also love geeky Sci Fi and can repair things in our house far better than my husband.

Just love the things you love and ignore any idiot who tells you that "thing" isn't for you. Wear your cool purses and enjoy making silly people upset.

Thanks for the encouragement.
It's unfortunate that society judges people by the mere rule of conformation. The reason more men won't carry an actual purse is because they fear rejection. I think most guys would find purses useful if they were able to carry bags without risking injury to their personal and professional reputations.

And then again some guys can pull off carrying a purse while others still look a little awkward. Some women have respect for men who carry purses while others reject the sighting as disgusting and not socially acceptable. But again to each his own. I just bring a bag with me selectively. It's easier for me to carry a bag in public when I'm hanging around women because the situation blends easier. Although I wouldn't necessarily say it's a courage or confidence issue, I just don't want to create any social tension or be publicly mocked on youtube by some idiot with an opposing outlook on the situation.

Imagine a guy getting into a physical confrontation because he's carrying a purse. I can see it now. Trying to defend myself while holding my purse. That would probably register millions of views and thousands of dollars. Except the viewing revenue would go to some camera happy bystander at my expense. ;)

Hey kids.
I'm the new guy in town so don't rough me up too bad.
I just thought I would share my experience in this thread if anyone is interested.

I'm actually a straight guy. Purses have become a hobby of mine. It all started when a friend wanted to save some money. She asked me to shop online for gently used brand name bags. I started my research and eventually learned the brands, styles and price points. I found there were lots of opportunities to slam offers on some really nice bags that were never used. I guess this strategy performed well because I now shop for quite a few women in my circle. To say I know more about purse fashion than all combined would probably be a true statement. And I've actually started on shoes but don't know enough just yet.

Since then I have found myself looking at almost every bag I pass. Being a straight guy, maybe that's not normal, but whatever. Having purse shopped so much, I even bought a few bags for myself. My favorite is F10909 from Coach. I also have a Coach 9541. I don't get the opportunity to use them very often because society always stares no matter which bag I carry. I always take a bag when traveling though. There are usually so many distractions and possibilities in airports that few people ever notice. I had a flight attendant walk by once when I was using my 9541. She just smiled and probably assumed I was gay but hey whatever. I actually tried using my 9541 a few months ago. I went to a store around closing time with a friend of mine. There were only a few customers inside but a woman that was shopping the aisles froze when she made eye contact with me. She then started following behind us, peaking from other aisles and sticking her head around corners in disbelief. I mean it's just a bag and I really only buy black, brown or camel colors. It's not like I was sporting a bright coral colorblock. Although, I probably would if I could. I actually wouldn't mind a leatherware top handle from a few years ago in multicolor but that's an unneeded challenge. I think I can rock some bags pretty good despite my size. My build isn't exactly petite so that probably doesn't help with acceptance. Anyway, I'm mostly a hobo and soho kind of guy but like some totes and satchels. No matter which bag I choose, they probably won't be considered conforming to men for a long time. Oh well. Psychology is amazing and purses are awesome. I don't care what anyone says :)
Good for you! Who cares what anyone thinks! The guys I see rocking amazing bags usually also exude confidence, and that's attractive and cool. Welcome to TPF :smile1:

Do you know how many women would kill for their boyfriends/husbands to be like this? Your (next?) girlfriend is one lucky lady!

Good question OP, I cannot remember exactly what started it off but when I was very little I had a thing for bags. :P and now I'm older I am discovering new, wonderful bags all the time- it's like one big adventure! :D

I have always loved bags. I started buying in my teens. I had a few Guess bags, but most were unknown brands. I didn't buy my first designer until last year. It was a Coach hobo in leather for $100. It was the most I've spent on a purse. Then suddenly I found TPF and upped the ante. 5 months later I now own a few Chanel and LV and many more contemporary bags. I love them all and see many more in the future.

I saw a Longchamp Roseau black leather bag in an Off Fifth store in the Chicago suburbs in my 30s. It was nearly $200, and I had never paid so much for a handbag. But I had to have it. It was so beautiful. I had never even heard of Longchamp at the time. Now I still love quality bags but I am really more of a shoe lover.

Walking by a Louis Vuitton store back in 2010 and seeing the Fleurs de Jais speedy. I came to realize that some brands were producing some pretty interesting artistic bags which sparked my interest in collecting.

I walked past the Chanel Boutique in Melbourne (Australia) in 2002 and saw the classic flap. A few years later when I started working full time I bought the classic flap. I haven't looked back, I would save up over a year or two, buy a nice bag...

I really appreciate quality leather, craftsmanship and classic styles that do not date. I'm working on saving up for an Hermes Jypsiere.
