What makes YOUR heart sing more in the long run? Your Classic black or colorful special bags?

I love muted colors, especially muted green against gold hardware. Actually to date, I’ve only bought two Chanels that are black in color. The rest are colored ones. I feel that colored bags are more unique as they are specific to the season, while black ones are always going to be there for every season

My first Chanels were all black and then I got to point where I said no more black. I now only really buy colour and try to avoid black. The colours really make my heart sing

I agree, I have too many black bags, now getting some color. Just picked up this one through resale.

I love all my Chanel bags, but I find that I reach for my black bags less and less these days. My colored bags are my unicorns--especially the tiffany blue mini. It makes my heart skip a beat!

I am a little more relaxed and confident that I will pick a nice first Chanel bag and it doesn‘t have to be only black anymore!
But I am sure now that my first bag will be from the boutique and not preloved.

You should get both, sorry if I can’t help you much. Buy the colored bag now if you like this season’s color & get the black later. You can always get black color anytime. Colored bags are not the same every season tho.

I actually had the second dilemma as you. I thought my first Chanel would be black with gold hardware. However when I went to the boutique, I saw a gorgeous light pink. So I bought that instead since Chanel doesn't release the same colors. Also I felt I could find a black with gold hardware on the pre loved market and save money. My regret that is that im scared to use it since it's such an expensive bag and it's light color, so it's prone to color transfer. It's a gorgeous bag and I'm trying to work on not being scared to use it. I don't want to spray it but open to spraying my clothes since they are cheaper. Hope this helps

Yes this helps...Because I have sold all my LV Azur bags lately due to color transfer but I still think lighter colors are so pretty ... I have stepped away now from the idea of buying only black/ghw. If I go to the store and something speaks to me in that combo: Okay. But I don‘t force myself to it anymore. Thanks to you all!
So I am also hesitant about certain colors, because these bags are so expensive. The price can only be justified with the „cost-per-wear“ argument for me. So I am telling myself that I have to use it- A LOT- because 3000+ Euros to put something on my shelf is just crazy too much...

And it is somewhat classic in a somewhat classic color but its not black and no classic flap!
I bought it from the store to have the peace of mind and to have the so called „boutique experience“ (which was indeed extremely special thanks to @schaef179 )

I picked the bag basically before I went to the boutique (phew- no impulse buy challenge!)


Here’s the long story if you are interested:

I was still a little unsure about color and style but decided to try my first choice: which was the Coco Handle. But I was not set on black/ghw anymore- thanks to this thread and your responses.

I got in touch with a sweet member of this forum and she was such a huge help. Thank you @pinkorchid20 for giving so much insight in buying Chanel! As a newbie this was SO helpful!

I reached out to the SA who gave me his card last time and he sent me some pictures of the Cocos available.
I wasn‘t 100% sure of the colors they had, but I was too slow and the only color I favored was gone before I even had the chance to go to the store and look at it. The bag in question was a beige/dark burgundy handle small size Coco Handle.

The good thing was: when it was gone I was disappointed and somehow sad- I had it in the back of my mind the whole time and looked at the photos over and over again, so suddenly I knew I wanted THIS exact bag... that feeling was, what I was waiting for when I started this thread.

The hunt began!

What season was it?
How much is it?
How the hell can I get info about stock in the stores without purchase history or knowing SAs and without being rejected by some hotline????

Already addicted!!! So happy I went to the store for my first!

I bought the Coco Handle in a seasonal beige color with the really dark burgundy colored handle, lizard embossed... so its actually a little bit of both worlds:

Classic beige color with some extra! To me the perfect combo!

I even tried black in the store and it was not for me... so I learned: you can have in your head whatever you want- you need to see and try it!

Reasons for picking this bag as my first Chanel after spending hours on this forum, asking in my survey, looking up, requesting pictures and watching youtube etc....
in case you are interested:


+it’s a lot like classic flaps PLUS the top handle, it has a detachable and more comfortable strap due to the all-leather-part, feet at the bottom, organization inside

+much more reasonable in price to me than the classics even before the last price increase

+not leather lined (I just prefer fabric)

+beige/burgundy handle over black, because I wanted something classic, yet somewhat special (the beige is not yellowish or pinkish and it is dark enough to not worry too much and the contrast color handle is just a little bit special- not too crazy- and something not everyone has)

+ghw against the beige is not immediately „in your face“ in my opinion, because it blends in somehow...and I am more comfortable with that

+to me this darker beige is more a year round color than black or beige clair, but that is just me

+ghw is aged and not so prone to scratches (for me it is more carefree and I don‘t freak out about scratches like I first did on my Pochette Metis)

+all in all I think it‘s a bag I can wear now and in 10 years or 30years or when I am 80 ! LOL

I think go with what you feel suits you and ignore the price increases, don’t be afraid of colours as they are often the most special bags. Everyone promotes classics but special pieces would reflect your own style and personality I think.

I always wanted a jumbo CF in silver hardware and I passed due to other commitments at the time... 5 years later I brought the black one but in the medium size with gold hardware and I’m so happy I didn’t buy the one I wanted years ago. The CF in was my 3rd Chanel bag by the time I got it.

I fell out of love with the colour combination and size I originally wanted and opted for a Diorama in silver hardware for that edgy look. I also now prefer bags in smaller more versatile sizes and don’t want to carry heavy bags.

My first Chanel bag was found by chance when I went to pick up a Red lady Dior I reserved and saw a fuchsia pink seasonal style flap bag and got it instantly. I get a lot of compliments on my bag and it was a fraction of the price - I also had a chance to try the brand and love it before I opt for a bigger purchase. I then got a wallet on chain next and loved caviar, it’s durability and how much I wore it.

This year I randomly tried the CF in gold hardware in the medium size and I fell in love and I got it
