What is your favourite (non-diamond) gemstone and why?

Just a discussion question which might be fun to consider - what is your favourite (non-diamond, precious/semi precious) gemstone and why?

I removed diamond from the consideration set just because it’s the most ubiquitous I suppose, but I really meant just “white diamond”, so if someone feels really passionate about a specific fancy colour of diamond, or if they really dislike ALL other gemstones except white diamond, they can talk about that instead

For me the answer is super tough to come up with but I’d have to go with emeralds. I love green, and I love how emeralds are always naturally a bit flawed because I think it’s reflective of how all humans are also a tiny bit flawed! Emeralds are also different from diamonds in that they don’t sparkle like crazy, they’re more subdued but they can still glow and capture your attention. I just think as a stone it’s got a real royal feel to it! I love emerald in all forms, faceted or cabochon.

Diamonds will always be my favourite I just love them! I’m starting to really like pink sapphire, for no other reason really than I like the colour pink and wear a lot of grey which I always like with pink. And amethyst because it’s my birth stone.

Pink sapphire is really pretty! Actually sapphire is a pretty cool stone - comes in a bunch of different colours and is hard enough to wear everyday.

Turquoise! I love how it evokes the color of clear sparkling blue ocean with sea animals and plants in it. And turquoise looks gorgeous with diamonds, emerald, blue or pink sapphire and just with any color of gold. I saw a Bvlgari necklace with the combination of turquoise, pink tourmalines,amethyst, rubellites, diamonds set in pink gold and the piece is totally extraordinary. I like the unveined type which is Sleeping Beauty turquoise. Since it is opaque, turquoise looks great in any skin tones.

Moonstone - it’s milky semi-transparent colour is calming, pink and blue sapphires- so pretty, wearable, and onyx - mysterious (but I still adore diamonds because they are magic, they are stardust!)

Blue and pink sapphires and turquoise are my favourites but I also like citrine, prasiolite and aquamarine. I love gemstones, especially in earrings!

I love colored gemstones & my all time favorite is Tanzanite. The darker saturated stones. It looks amazing when the sunlight hits it. Sometimes looks vivid blue... sometimes looks purple... or violet... with flashes of red. I just love it! And blue/purple are my favorite colors.

Amethyst and Morganite. Purple is my favorite color, so definitely amethyst. But I also love rose gold, and Morganite looks perfect with rose gold. Pink Sapphire and deep London Blue Topaz would be next on my list. I like all of those four better than diamonds. I do NOT want a diamond engagement ring, TBH. I want a platinum or rose gold Claddagh ring. A ruby or garnet heart if platinum, a Morganite heart if rose gold.

I love the ruby stone but only if it has diamonds with it. Diamonds and rubies together is stunning.

I pick Ruby because red is my favorite color

I love pink also! I would love to have a rose gold ring set with a blush pink morganite but I wonder if the stone would get scratched with wear?

It's really hard to choose. I love all kind of colored gemstone, especially deep, saturated colors. I love deep purples and blues, so I love tanzanite, amethyst, and lapis especially. I've also started to inherit my mom's love rich reds in the form of garnets and rubies.

Me too! Just love tanzanite! Happily they have decided that it can be a birthstone for December. Lucky for me!

Definitely lucky! Mine is Amethyst which in its royal purple is beautiful too - but that tanzanite just mesmerizes me!

Amethysts - they can range from a lovely lilac color to a darker purple, and are beautiful set in both silver and gold.
Sapphires and turquoise - I always seem to gravitate towards blue, both in clothing and in my choice of accessories.
