What is MONK leather?

I have absolutely NO idea and I have never heard of it lol but again I am a newbie...so I'd love to know too

I think this is an 03 monk leather black PH messenger/hobo.

The 02 black first monk-leather bag I have (see my pix above) has held up remarkably well. It is one of my fave rave bags - I always seem to grab this when going out at night. The leather is kind of an anomaly. It is very resilient. It has a "matte" finish but it is slightly shinier than regular suede. A little bit "pebbley." too. See Corey/Real Deal's explanation in that link I posted (or search www.RealDealcollection.com for "monk"). Hope I posted in the right thread, as there a couple here about this monk leather!. Just wish I had the original long strap.

So the seller (of the original bag this this thread was about before it was retitled and moved) INSISTS it was purchased in the last two years. Does anyone know if these bags were faked at all? I told her I didn't care if it was older - but she's sticking to her guns. Could it have gotten lost in a stockroom. The plot thickens!

I have seen this leather on another Bal bag somewhere last year - on one of the websites, pretty sure not Purse Forum, as I had not yet joined. It was also in black, cannot recall the style. I'm really not helping at all, Beauxgoris, sorry.
I'm sure you'll get your answer pretty soon, though. There must be someone else on TPF who has bought one of these before.

I hope i can help out on this bag. The bag on the picture is the bag i bought a little while ago from Corey RDC and its great and lovely. Its like a kind of leather that is sandpaperd in Holland we call it nubuk but this is more structure. It looks and feels soft but sometimes it looks stif but it is not. The model of the bag is a bit stif. Whe i first did see the auction my thoughts where i dont know what this is the pics are not so great but when i looked again i de see the same bag as mine.
So i am sure its authentic and good and the same as Corey sold to me, and if U feel it with Your own hand than U wil know its real Balenciaga.

^^It's a suede-like leather, Here's one RDC sold - it gives you a clear idea of the suede'ish surface. I've looked for a black RH hobo for so long - but I think I should hold out for my hearts desire.
It's soft, kind of like a Camel leather with a suede over it. It wears beautifully and is really sturdy. Here's a picture of my '02 Monk PH First:
