What is it about Vince ....

Confession time: I am willing to pay full price for Vince. This from a girl who is otherwise firmly committed to the mantra "never pay retail." Vince makes it so easy to get the beautiful basics I find it difficult to find.

This season, for example, I bought a drape-sleeved tee ($98) that was the perfect shape and the perfect color that I'd been wanting. I also bought a pair of white skinny jeans ($198). The jeans were a surprise to me - I'm very picky about how pants look on my body (big butt, big hips, small waist - I love my shape, but it can make it buying pants tricky). But they looked awesome and lived up to my high standards.

I'm not sold on all of their fabrics (Polyester? Not for $200!), but the amazing fit and cut are there.

P.S. Someone asked about pant sizing - IMO, run large by about 1 size compared to other brands.

My Vince pieces are always the first ones I reach for in my closet. I always feel stylish without being OTT in them. I have 3 sweaters and I wear them so much in the winter. They get so much more wear than my J Crew or other brands I don't mind paying more.
I sound like I work for them! I am just very picky and it is rare for me to find things I like that much.

I love Vince but I am not willing to pay retail for it. Actually it has to be pretty deeply discounted for me to buy it. I am a frugal shopper because of my budget constraints. I appreciate good quality but I know how and where to get it for a great price. Vince has great basics but the price is not always what I am willing to pay. You can find great basics elsewhere. Vince is a great brand if you have the money to spend. If you don't, you can find good ones elsewhere for a better price. That's my personal opinion.

It is Cynthia Vincent's clothing line-I read this somewhere and I can't remember where now! Maybe WWD or something? When I found that out it made sense to me because I absolutely love her shoes.

I did some google searching...turns out that Cynthia Vincent helped start the line but isn't involved any longer. The founders are Christopher LaPolice and Rea Laccone.

Anyway, love both clothing lines....I scored a black cashmere Vince zip up hoodie for $99 at a Neiman Marcus outlet. :yahoo: Great deal and I wore it to death this winter.

"Because of his exuberance, a lot of people assume Mr. LaPolice, 46, is Vince, but Vince is actually a made-up name, inspired by the California designer Cynthia Vincent, who helped start the label in December 2001 but left after a few months. “A lot of customers want to have a designer they can associate with the product, so we called it Vince,” Mr. LaPolice said. The current creative backbone is Micheline Ip, a former designer for the contemporary label Laundry by Shelli Segal, where Mr. LaPolice once sold sportswear and where he met his business partner, Rea Laccone, who started Laundry in 1988 and built it into a major business."

Here's a NY Times article from 2006 about the company.

So, I received a Nordstrom gift card for my birthday forever ago and have been waiting to spend it.

I've read here, and other places, that Vince chunky sweaters, cotton basics and leather are to die for. I've had my eye on this Vince sweater, but I'm afraid that because it's SOOO lightweight and delicate that it won't hold up. Obviously, their things are made to last, and everyone's raving about them, but I'm a little nervous. I've never owned Vince before and I almost never pay full price for anything. I've tried it on like six times, and it's on hold for me until Tuesday...

Do any of you have any lighter weight/more delicate Vince sweaters? How do they hold up??

The one I'm looking at is the shimmer rugby stripe in black smoke...

Should I go for it? Or invest in something a little more substantial? I live part time in the mountains and part time by the beach- I was thinking it could be a good warmer fall option.

I just bought this beautiful maxi dress. I am feeling guilty for spending so much. However, the other dresses I have tried on just dont compare. I have been lusting after vince maxi dresses for several years.
