Black Jade: I hadn't thought of that, but since I am bringing the diamond with me when I go to look at settings I will definitely keep an eye on it for contrast. Thanks for the input!

it's a beautiful setting!!!

I love it! Halos are actually an antique style that recently had a resurgence in popularity so, while they are trendy right now, I still consider them a classic style. And honestly, while I see dozens of them every day online via pricescope, etc., I am hard pressed to see very many in my day to day life.

I really love halo rings with plain shanks! But that's because I don't like the feel of pave between my fingers, lol, it bugs me and ever since I switched to a setting with a nice plain shank, I've never turned back!
^I agree...I love that halos refer to antique styles. I don't mind a paved shank in a ring that I wear occassionally, but I agree that I could never wear a pave shank every day.

Every jeweler makes a point of pushing the halo since it makes the stone look bigger and that's all I can think of when I see them, since that talking point was repeated so many times!

I do absolutely love halos around fancy shapes, because it really shows off the shape of the center stone. And I love halos around colored stones too!

That's definitely why I chose my halo. My fiance and I couldn't afford as large a center stone as many of the women on here have (though it's still a VERY respectable and beautiful .99 ctw asscher that I adore :smile1:) and I have fat fingers so I didn't want a small stone just floating around on a sea of chub. *LOL* It just wouldn't look right and would make my finger look even bigger. I decided a halo would increase the visual impact of the ring, without dramatically increasing the price. Plus, I love the antique look and always have, so this gives me that.

To the OP: I don't personally like the style in the picture, because I feel the clean lines and simplicity of the smooth band contrasts too much with the fussy-ness of the halo. I think if you're going to go with a smooth band, perhaps you should consider a halo with diamonds bead set in what looks like a channel, that would have smooth, flat edges. That's what mine is. But then opinions are purely subjective, so if this is the look you adore, you should definitely go for it.

I'd also like to echo the sentiment about comparing the center stone to the halo ones. My accent stones are actually higher in color than my center, so they do make the center look a little dingier sometimes. Not by much and I only notice it because I'm anal about things like that, but it's a good thing to consider. :smile1:

Update: I went to the store and tried it on... and I remembered why I don't like jewelry shopping even though I love jewelry. The saleswoman wasn't very pleasant and I couldn't decide :( The setting and main stone did blur into one another almost completely. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but looking at it you can't really tell if there is a center stone or not. She said I couldn't take pics for "security reasons" so there you go, no second opinions on this one. Maybe I won't be doing this right now and I'll get a wide eternity band first instead. Either way I will be sure to post pics :)

What? You couldn't take pics?? That's total BS.

I had my RB placed in a halo setting and snapped away to my hearts content LOL!

I'm very sorry you had a piss-poor experience. But DO NOT give up!!!

I have been told no pics by many jewelers. They don't want you getting a good clear image and going elsewhere with your business.

That's a bummer that you weren't happy. If it's in a simple solitaire keep it that way for a while longer. Try on more stuff!
