I have to agree that Chanel, Hermes, and LVs are classic, but I think any fairly neutral (brown, black, white for summer) bag that has a clean shape and minimal "trendy" details could be a bag that you can carry for years to come. I have a brown Hogan Scout shoulder bag (the one with the flap) that I believe will be a "classic" bag, simply because everyone should have a shoulder bag and this is a nice neutral color with clean lines. The Fendi Spy bag in a brown color could be worn for quite a while...it really depends on how fancy a bag you want and how long you need it to be your staple handbag. The Paddington is definitely trendy (and expensive), although something like the Edith is a bag you could carry for a while. And remember that bags come back as "vintage" too. Coach has some relatively inexpensive classic bags of good quality that might be better suited for a student budget (been there!).
