Side by side yes, but when you start getting into I and below in the scale the gaps between colors widen. So more stones might qualify as an I vs an H allowing more warmth to be seen in a low I vs a high I.

Maybe because the poll clumped together D & E colors. I'm sure if they were separated, there would be fewer numbers than currently represented.
