I think the combination of black with navy can actually look really chic, if done right. I also like it combined with camel, tan, taupe, grey, burgundy and cream. A fuschia pink can also look stunning - one of my favourite colour combinations in fact!

PT - can I ask why you d think brown looks terrible? I have chocolate brown bags and tend to see them as neutrals that 'go' with everything. Or is that not so?

Just my prefs. Isn't is funny I would wear a black bag with navy or brown, and maybe a brown bag with black but not brown or olive or any muddy/muted colours with navy. I think I'd be OK with deep ebony because I'd know how to fool the eye into thinking it's black. If I'd need a bag that happened to be proper brown and wanted to also wear navy I'd wear my H silk Clic Clac a Pois that is blck/brown/navy so the brown repeats. I love that clever scarf and that is exactly why I bought it.

My mother's pet hate is cream and white together, whereas I think white, cream, magnolia, ivory all work together (as in my new bathroom that my mother has not seen yet LOL)

I couldn't wear brown shoes with black or navy trous. either but I don't mind long brown boots with a black or navy skirt, how weird is that!

Behind it, I suppose it's because when I purposely wear navy (which is quite often these days) it's a break from my usual palate of muddy/heathery/muted colours which are my 'naturals' and 'neutrals' and seek a sense of sartorial clarity. I seem obsessed by clear greens and blues ATM and most people would never put blue and green together either as in the 'rule' "blue and green should not be seen". Etoupe is supposed to be a great neutral for me I could never get it until I saw how it looked with orange. It's some combos that I just can't enough of and some that I just think :nogood:

This is a fun thread as after reading and participating here I felt super inspired to wear my navy pieces for the past few days, as opposite to the usual black... :D

Thank you.

Well, I would first usually go for navy....even if I am wearing a navy top with dark blue jeans xD I love navy~ I would also wear browns - especially camel-type browns. Red, yellow/gold, white, cream, green. I probably would not do black, but that is because I like black/red, black/white, black/black type combinations.
