Not true, at all:

1. The Alma was around before the Bolide.

2. It's the other way around. The MK was a copy of the Totally.

3. The SDJ looks nothing like the Birkin, aside from the fact that they are both east-west totes. The SDJ doesn't have the belt wraparound, the three part top flap, etc.

4. The MG isn't a rip off of the Noe. They're both bucket bags, but that's it. What distinguishing design elements do they share?

But I can also sure that your points are wrong. Lol. Ask the ladies at Hermès forum.

Re: Pandora looking unbalanced: Absolutely - it LOOKS weird. I will forever be grateful to Givenchy for quietly knowing how amazing it could be and giving it the time to slowly win us over / build a following of devoted Panda fans. Pandora is like the quiet dorky girl who turns out to be brilliant, hilarious, kind, generous, and graceful: who can go anywhere and do anything.

Pandora is a bag that must be seen and worn IRL to be appreciated. It DOES look weird in photos. In person, it is richly crafted with luxurious materials... has five options for carrying, and can both swallow a lot of stuff or drape beautifully against your body. It can be at once edgy and elegant; functional and fanciful. Discovering this - upon trying one on for the first time - is like joining a secret society, and wearing one thereafter is a singular experience that refreshes that secret and brings great joy.

+1:D

Pandora is awesome!

To be fair, MK wasn't the first or last company that took 'inspiration' from other bags. But I have never seen any other brand that has invoked this much dichotomy of passionate following on one hand AND utter disdain on the other. I find that phenomenon very interesting.

I disagree I feel as though his pieces go beyond "taking inspiration" and more like blatant copying. I guess it depends where you draw the line.

Totally agree! All those MK pieces above are knockoffs, period. It's one thing to "pay homage" or imitate another design by taking one or two key design elements. But what MK did was beyond that. If you took away the "Michael Kors" namestamp and initials, you could easily mistake his pieces for cheap counterfeits.

Def agree! Your last sentence is my point exactly!

1. Bolide was created in 1923. Alma was created in 1930.
2. Totally is a copy of Jet Set tote, even the ladies at Louis Vuitton sub-forum know this.
3. SDJ looks like the modern version to me and also to other people such as Amanda Mull of the Purseblog, this is just a matter of opinion. I have SDJ by the way.
4. The first bucket bag ever created was Noe from LV to carry champagne bottle. Even since all bucket bags look like Noe, if that's not a copy, I don't know what is.

I think the best resolution would be that people agree to disagree on MK and go back to answering the question of the thread.

Yes. I am going to have to go back and delete comments because it's really crossed the line.

Again, everyone please keep in mind that just because you don't like a design doesn't mean someone else doesn't love it. I thought we could all take a lighter stance on this, so let's try that as many have!

I've read through the entire thread in one go, and am surprised the Balenciaga City hasn't been mentioned. To me this bag looks cheap, as the leather in so many of them seems to be of bad quality, and not worthy of being hailed as a "designer bag". Can someone please explain all the clasps and leather strips placed on the front of the bag for absolute no reason at all, no function and ugly to boot IMHO - OK, rant over :-)

WOW. it's Balenciaga's signature, stamp-if you will. Bal just chooses not to tramp stamp like LV, Coach or MK (i own all BTW).
have you OWNED a Bal City?? bcz if you have, you would KNOW the leather is actually sumptuous, deliciously smooshy & is intended to have that vintage distressed look. many TPFers LOVE that look, so to say that it's "not worthy of designer bag" status is just really closed minded.

Just saying, this could go for the 100+ comments saying MK should disappear because it looks cheap. It's not close minded of her to say it, she's saying what she honestly believes. As I said in a previous post, don't take this personally, it's their opinion of a bag and you calling her close minded most likely won't change the fact she sees it as cheap looking.

To each their own [emoji5]️

Have you seen the chèvre bags? They are a lot thicker and not crinkly like the Agneau. Personally I love both lol

This! Bal bags up close are different from pictures.

Wow! Shocked that the posts on the controversy re: MK bags remain, while those re: exotics/furs were removed. The fix is in. *fully expect this post to be removed in due couse*
