I like the alcantra lining much more than the canvas lining -- it seems much more luxurious. It is easy to clean, too. I am not bothered that it is not real suede; if it were, it'd just give LV more reason to hike up those prices!

I know Audi and Mercedes-Benz uses Alcantara in their vehicles. Off hand I know the S600 (now the old S600... Benz just introduced their new S class! To DIE for!) has an alcantara headliner, and this is their flagship sedan. Audi has it as an option in their A8. Yes, I am obsessed with cars, as well as bags... ^_^

I happen to love alcantara, and yes, it's not just that cheap microfiber. It really imitates suede, and the upkeep is SO much easier. I wish more of the Monogram bags had this lining!

I knew it was faux... I don't remember where I read it. Everyone is right though, microfiber is so much more durable than suede, it's easy to clean and it will wear well.

I didn't know it wasn't real but heck, I still it! It's so soft and I like the fact that it won't scratch anything in my purse.

Doesn't really bother me, it looks nice and I've never really been much of a suede fan. It always gets too dirty

i never even blinked an eye at this fact...i just knew the inside of my white pochette was red and the black one was a mushroom..haha!

I knew this and in regards to cleaning my SA informed me just to return the bags (with the alcantra lining) to them and they will clean them.

You know, I always thought the "alcantara" linings of the MC line, were suede. It wasn't till I was just looking on the LV UK website (having a peek at the Rift, actually) when I noticed it stated "microfibre lining" rather than the usual "alcantara" lining.

Having done a quick google, it appears that "alcantara" is in fact, "faux suede".

I'm quite ticked off about this, as I remember having a discussion with several SA's in regard to alcantara, when the MC first came out, and they were adamant, alcantara was real suede.

Anyone else realise it was faux?

I didn't think it was real suede giving the fact the monogram canvas, for example, is made out of vinyl. What tipped me off are those mini cards you get with the bags one card says the style number or something and the other one tells you the materials it is made of. The only geniune material LV uses is cowhide leather, everything else is man-made materials with fancy names.

When I wrote monogram canvas, I was referring to monogram canvas collection as a whole. Let's use the monogram canvas Speedy 25 for example. I am pointing out the fact that the exterior of the bag with the "LV" monogram is made of coated vinyl. The handles use cowhide leather. The interior is made out of a brown man-made fabric (canvas) lining. Yes, you are right, vinyl is plastic and canvas is not plastic.

Right its coated canvas. Coated with a type of vinyl I believe.
