The engagement ring you mean? I was tossing up between this one and a similar 4 claw cartier http://www.cartier.com/collections/...-rings/solitaire-1895/n4164600-solitaire-1895 and in the end I let him choose. The plain band just didn't look good on my hand at all, somehow it looked too plain and bf agreed. On your hand I think the diamond pops more on the plain band for some reason? Is there a difference in size (diamond)? You should get some more pictures.
In attachment the cartier ring, he claims the one he bought me (I haven't seen it yet but he went to Tiffany with his cheat sheet from Ame 🙊 thanks Ame!) is his best feat uptil now so the pressure is on him! 😁

NYmf,

I believe there was a difference in diamond size since we were simply looking at what they had in stock.

Everyone around agreed that the diamond band looked better on my finger whereas, like you, the plain band was well, plain, and the diamond band, like Chicky mentioned, popped more.

Then it's probably the difference in size of the diamond! It's clear you prefer the diamond band! Get what you (and your bf) love, you're the one who will wear it for years to come!

I have a cartier band and it just never meshed well with the diamonds on the band on my ER. If you go that route, be sure to go to Cartier and try the bands with your ER.

Good luck! Tough choices!

I see! Definitely check out other stores as well. My friend got her engagement/wedding ring from Cartier too.
I agree with Nymf, it seems like you're leaning towards the diamond band? Choose the one that you like the most since you'll be wearing it and most likely keeping the ring for a long time! Good luck!! :smile1:

Get what you love as long as it's in budget. You might not get the size of center stone you want though if you want the diamond shank, but if that's the look you love, that is what you should get.

If you don't have to have your ering from Tiffany or Cartier, you might be able to get a larger center stone AND the diamond shank going elsewhere. Then you can get the look you like, without giving too much up, and no one will know where it came from, besides you guys anyway.

Our SA just called and said the size difference would be .20.

The classic could be .85, whereas the diamond setting could go up to .70.

Im constantly doing back and forth so much that we made an appointment for tomorrow. Someone needs to decide for me lol

Have fun trying on rings tomorrow! You'll know when you try on the right ring! My bf picked out my ring within 10 minutes apparently (both visually and after review of the certificate- in one of the threads Ame stated some specs-table, depth etcetera which are a great reference!) 😁

Hi Ame,

I think we're going to go with VSI 2 to get the bigger bang for our buck, as well as the lowest color Tiffany offers.

Ok so an I VS2, make sure you are looking at the angles and percentages, not just the color and clarity. Cut quality makes a big difference. See as many as you can in your budget. Don't settle, this is a very big purchase! They're there to do this legwork with you. Who gives a crap if they're annoyed doing it? It's their job.

Cheat sheet which is a great set of numbers for Round Brilliants

And I’d ask the sales person to limit the selection of round brilliant cut diamonds which they offer to me so that all of the diamonds are within the following range of proportions:
Total depth between 59 – 61.8%
Table diameter between 53 – 57%
Crown angle between 34.3 – 34.9 degrees
Pavilion angle between 40.6 – 40.9 degrees
Girdle thickness between thin to medium, faceted (bruted isn't bad, but faceted would be better)
Culet size: none

thank you!
I will take this with me.

I just want to pick a style and stick with it. At first I loved the solitaire and thought the channel too blingy, but now the channel gives extra oomph and the solitaire is plain. We'll see if the bigger solitaire size will win me over in the classic. I just want something I'll always love. I see all these upgrades from bling to solitiare and vice versa. eek

If not, you upgrade in a few years taking advantage of their upgrade policy. Then you can get the other setting that you loved, and another larger stone. Your taste may change once you wear it for a few years.

I agree with Ame.
My favorite ring on your hand is the plain ring with the nicest stone you can afford paired with a diamond wedding band.
Classic look. Timeless.
You will enjoy wearing the band by itself.
The simpler ring just looks more special to me.
