I apologize for neglecting this thread! I have been swamped at the lab this week and forgot to respond! Thank you all for taking the time our to respond to this thread!

Honestly, I would love to meet him halfway so that we are both happy but our tastes are so extreme that I feel like we both may feel "eh" in the end. My engagement ring was actually the first meeting halfway for us (actually skewed more towards my fiance's end). I love ornate settings like the Tiffany Legacy, which he deemed as a "Super Bowl ring" and this solitaire was his absolute favorite. After a lot of thinking time on my end, about how this is a gift from my FI and all, I decided to go for the solitaire. I love my ring and the versatility to get any wedding band, but I can't help but get the itch to think about other settings for my diamond. I just don't want to feel this way about my wedding band too. He basically doesn't like any bands on me over 2 mm so it makes it very tough to even go for a carat weight smaller than 2.5 tcw.
There are a lot of good ideas here so I definitely have some food for thought. I will be trying on wedding bands again in a few weeks. I plan on trying on tons of different styles to see if one maybe makes us both jump for joy! :smile1:

labrat, i had this dilemma as well... i always thought i wanted a small, delicate pave/eternity band that i would stack together with my solitaire... i even ordered them! then when i got them and tried them on, i started to not like the look of it...

so DF and i went to several places to try on rings, and DF suggested i try on a 5-stone RB band... i was initially opposed to this idea... but i tried it on to appease him, and lo and behold i fell in love with the look! eventhough i was initially opposed to the "bling" and felt like it took away from the simplicity of my solitaire, but now i really really love how it looks.... i also love how comfortable a 5-stone band is... the sides and bottom do not irritate the sides of my fingers. plus i was able to get substantially larger stones with a 5-stone band (total ct weight of mine is 1.5, each stone is 0.3 cts), rather than if i had gotten an eternity band

in the end though, it is your decision. i think DF can give you his opinion, but like everyone has said, you are the one who's gonna wear it, so you have to be happy with it!

i don't like the look of substantial wedding bands. i think it does indeed look too blingy or flashy. if you wear your e-ring and band on separate hands then it'll look better, but on 1 hand i'd go with something more delicate so your beautiful e-ring is the center of attention.

i agree with this. if you plan to wear the band alone, go for as big as you want. but i think a more dainty band is best with a solitaire ring.

Since you mention that your FI is only getting you one band, I'd go with a 3/4 eternity or an eternity with a sizing band to allow for weight flux in the future. As someone who has been married for 5+ years and is the mother of 2 children, I'm sorry to say I can't even wear my eternity anymore as a result of so much weight flux over the years. So please bear that in mind in making your decision. :smile1:
Excellent poitn, here. I was a 5 when we got married and now am a 7.5! I like the idea of a 3/4 eternity band, and, no, I don't think any large dia. etern can be gaudy! The big thing here is that you want to wear it alone so you will need a substantial ring or it will look childish!

I think that with such delicate fingers and a 2ct solitare that the plainer, thinner wedding band would look better, but he should also give you a substantial e-band on a future anniversary to wear on your RH.

In the end you must wear the rings so the choice is really up to you alone.

I'd say go for whatever you like the most but for me, I prefer to let my solitaire shines without being overshadowed by the wedding ring.

I have a solitaire and loves the look of stacked thin rings.

fyi, take a look at Eva Longoria's first wedding ring. It was too clunky and didn't compliment her e-ring so she switched to a thin pave band, which looks a zillion times better!

First of all, congrats on the e-ring. It's gorgeous! Your FI has great taste!

I would suggest sticking to a w-band between 2-3mm thickness (any thicker would detract from the e-ring, in my opinion). The e-ring really is too beautiful to overshadow with a thick, clunky wedding-band.

Post pics once you decide!

Hi ladies,

I wanted to thank you again for your suggestions! Just an update: we ordered our wedding bands this weekend - we went with a shared-prong diamond eternity with 15 point stones for me and a 5mm platinum band with a thin milgrain edge for FI, both from Harry Winston! I tried on the band in a size 6 with 15 pointers and FI actually really liked it! The setting is much, much lower than the Tiffany eternity band in the same ct weight so the stones sit much closer to the finger. It didn't stick out nearly as much as the Tiffany band, which was what FI hated the most. He said he was really surprised at how my e-ring stone still stood out, despite the stones on the eternity. I am thrilled with the ring and so, so happy that FI likes it too! Now we have to wait 8-10 weeks to receive them since they are custom orders. Gah!

The icing on the cake was that the HW SA told FI that it's ok to have multiple bands and to wear different combos of rings, so now FI has warmed up to the idea of getting me more than one band. He told me he will consider getting me the pink diamond micropave band we saw there for our first anniversary! Nice progress from where we started, huh?! :graucho:
