I just bought my first pair of exotic python NS and am curious on the care. I am mainly concerned with smoothing out any scales that have curled and keeping the skin soft.

I've been reading a lot of threads on care here and was wondering which product do you use that works best for you.

Apple Garde Conditioner or Bick 4 Exotic Skin Care Leather Cleaner & Conditioner? How often do you use and any special techniques?

TIA!!
Your opinions are always invaluable to me :D

I used Apple Garde on my python and it worked very well to condition the scales. It also removed a couple darkish marks on the skin that were there when I got them. I haven't used Bick.

No, you don't want to use Apple Leather CLEANER (that is not okay for exotics). You want to use only Apple Leather CARE. I find a 4 ounce bottle will last a while for one pair, but it comes in 8 ounces as well.

The ebay link you have is the right stuff, the website link you have is not. Here is what you need if you are ordering from Leather Stuff.

thanks Nico for the clarification! I was reading too much stuff and they all got meshed together! :p

i actually use both apple garde and bick 4 for my python babies (^(oo)^)v

generally when i first purchase them, i'll condition them with bick 4 and let them dry completely. then, i follow up with apple garde's rain & stain repelling spray (it's a purple spray can with a black cap).

for maintenance, i condition with bick 4 as needed (depending on how often i wear them and how the scales feel) and i reapply the apple garde at the start of each rainy season, although i avoid wearing my python in the rain if at all possible

HTH!

My cobbler told me there's nothing he can do for python.
I've been wanting those metallic python shoes, but I don't want the heartache that will come with them once I get them slightly dirty or something.

Thanks Purly, I got a pair sent to me by mistake ( not what I ordered ) and was wondering to keep or not to keep...looks like a No, for may reasons including your post.

Thank you. :smile1:

I bought Bick 4 conditioner. What kind of cloth do I use to apply it to my python shoes? also, is there a certain way you guys clean them? how much conditioner do you put on the cloth?
I know I have to rub it in going IN the direction of the scales but that's about it.
thanks!
