The smell is amazing, like bacon! It's incredible to think that it's been under the sea for 200 years and still has it's typical smell.

The scent has permeated through the box into my cabinet drawer and smoking my washi papers. Very soon I will have limited edition “Russian Leather Scented” papers or maybe a fancier name “Le Cuir de Russie papiers parfumés”.

Hahaha..the hinoki wood in my antique cabinet where it is sitting, is competing with it now. I have never smelled Hinoki from my cabinet so strongly until now.

Oh dear I'm not getting the cured jerky or bacon thing from my pieces of Volynka or the Metta Catarina. Must be my nose...Not enough leather from the Hermessence either.

Mine is quite a big piece from Metta Catharina …A5 sized. Maybe the bigger it is, the more it gives.
I might try storing it in the cedar cupboard and see if it help push out the cedar fumes.

The spirit of the hinoki cabinet is protesting I think. The Japanese always allude to the myth that old things after a 100 years, has formed a spirit. But pretty nice to have both perfuming my living room now. The area smells foresty now in a nice way.

The Russian Leather from Metta Catarina Update.
Beautiful leather with a nice sheen…
Pic below.
It smells like smoked moose jerky from Sweden, to be honest. Gamey, woody and rather smokey. But oh well it’s been pickled under sea for 200 years, so I really can’t complain. It tainted my hands with the aroma. The neighbour’s dog got excited and started licking my hands. Lucky it didn’t chomp down.

Edit: I will be very interested to take a sniff at Hermes’ Volynka now since I have the actual leather.

if you read a couple of pages back on this thread, I have mentioned that when I got my Volynka bag I thought it was defective because of the smoky, beef jerky smell. :D when my SA opened the box at the store, she remarked that it smelled like dried meat

and because it's a big bag, the smell filled up my entire living room that I had to open the window once in a while just to take a break from the smell.

I would cherish the cabinet's cedar scent though. :-)

Yep, it took ours literally months to stop smelling up the room! It's not an unpleasant scent, to me it's just tar and leather, but it's STRONG.

Yesterday I was talking to our SM and I mentioned that I am interested in Volynka leather bags and to my surprise he said that he was offered a MK last month that he rejected because he didn't have any client interested in this bag :crybaby:

I asked him to see if the bag is still available but he said it's unlikely it will but he will ask.

Crossing my fingers it's still available.

As seen on the Fall 2023 runway, Volynka is back in the form of travel and 25 cm Bolides (I mistakenly called the small one mini in another thread). All pictures from Vogue.

But of course the runway is not a full catalogue of bags that would be available that season; there might be other Volynka bags that will be made. I'm just happy that it's back and the women who have been wanting a smaller-sized Volynka bag for years now seem to have their wish finally granted

Volynka makes the bag 1.5x more expensive than its regular counterpart. And so if a 25cm Bolide 1923 now costs 5250€, this Volynka bag will cost 7875€ if it were available today. But since it will come out hopefully a year from now, we can expect it to cost somewhere between 8000 and 8500€. Yikes.

Gorgeous! Be still my heart!!!

Actually felt faint when I was offered something in Volynka during my latest appointment in Paris. Something I can actually happily and easily use, which I don't need to sit in. DH said he really couldn't believe his eyes and that's never happened before.
It is now is my companion to DH's agenda cover which I purchased for him a while back and the brush will come in handy too.
It's currently scenting our room and walk- in wardrobe nicely.
Will post when I get good pics.
