Vintage vs Magic earclips.

Would love hear opinion from anyone that went through the process deciding vintage or magic size earrings. thank you!

For what it’s worth, to me, bigger is not better in this case.

I think given there are so many of the same motifs around the face, the matching VA size looks stunning. I think the Magic size, while bigger, does not look as good when worn with a 10, and I think it actually takes away from the beauty of the necklace which is the star; the eye should go right to that necklace.

The VA size earrings make it look like beautiful a set, not like you are trying to bling out in Alhambra logo motifs with jumbo motifs on the ears on top of a necklace (unless you want to look logo-y).

The Magic look be fine on its own or worn with a long Magic.

Just my two cents, but it’s all preference.

Thank you, but I didn't buy the 10. I am getting the short Magic in a few days, so I totally agree with what you said about the vintage working better with the shorter pendant! That solves my dilemma!

Spent the last few days with this dilemma. My 1st VCA piece.

Was originally leaning vintage size for YG onyx for “everyday” use.

Performed obligatory research on TPF. Saw pic posted by @DS2006 (extremely helpful by the way!). Swayed to consider the magic size as a result.

Went to store. Compared both vintage and magic sizes. I feel the magic size in onyx was very complimentary given I never wear necklaces 99.999% of the time, so nothing to compete with the “large presence” of the magic size with the magic earrings being the star of the show. If you are pairing with a necklace, I can see the advantage of the vintage size in that setting.

TL;DR: Magic size YG onyx (for me at least)

Congrats on your magic onyx earrings! I am the same BTW. I usually wear my magic GMOP and Malachite earrings on their own without a necklace. I absolutely love how substantial yet elegant they look!

Congratulations on your magic onyx too. Since I want a pair of earrings to complete my YG MOP 10 motif, I guess vintage is the way to go.

I was at VCA the other day trying on stuff and also saw the Magic pave long pendant on. It's super blingy which I love. It matches my Clover bangle which I really love! A buddy for my Clover! However, I find it also super logo-y to me, which I don't love. This boutique is not my regularly boutique, so the SA did not know me. He said "there is also the matching Magic pave BTF ring." I was thinking to myself... Can I look any more logo-y than a Magic pave long pendant with the matching Matching pave BTF ring? Does it scream "look at me, I'm wearing VCA" any louder than that? Of yes, let's add the Magic pave three-motif earrings!

That said, while I am not a logo person, the Magic pave long pendant and matching BTF ring did make a statement.
I'm beginning to think more about the Magic pendant, which you had suggested earlier.
I think I need to start sipping the Magic Kool-Aid!

I know you find the magic Alhambra pieces logo-y but am I the only crazy one here who looks at magic motifs as elegant, bold and beautiful? I don’t even see it as a being logo. All my old eyes see are the beautiful silhouettes of a clover that gently say ‘I am confident and beautiful’ rather than scream ‘look at me. I have arrived’… I can only imagine how stunning the pave magic pendant and the BTF pave rings must look together on you.. pics pls when you try them together next.

Not to confuse you @DS2006 but as much as I love the 10 motif with vintage earrings (or vintage earrings with vintage pendant) and wear my magic earrings mostly solo without a necklace or sometimes paired with the magic pendant on a long chain, I still prefer the magic earrings when I wear my magic pendant short. Here is an example of me going nuts with everything malachite in my life

Omg I laughed so hard at the discount bit! How I wish .. did I tell you I placed a SO for magic pave Alhambra ring in RG. I contemplated placing a BTF pave Alhambra ring in RG but I am not a fan of the spacing for the RG version of the BTF ring (it is offered only in the Middle East I believe). There was a time when I wanted the BTF pave Alhambra ring in RG so badly and my SA at the time had shown me on his iPad that it was offered in the Middle East and we saw the spacing to be much wider between the fingers as compared to the WG version. I believe there is even a thread on TPF discussing the wider spacing for the RG version. I was not a fan of how it looked in pics so didn’t SO the BTF version and went for the single motif instead. Regarding the magic pave pendant, I am honestly ‘done’ with magic pendants for now. I have two and that’s more than enough. Both are colors that tug at my heartstrings - malachite and GMOP so they do get a lot of wear but two is enough.

I hear you on the logo bit. Not a fan myself.

I am getting the wg mop short Magic since it only comes in short. I am having it lengthened a little. Then I will see if I find I need a 20 later on! I do think the long Magic pave pendant is perfect for the clover bracelet! Do it!!!! (I am fortunate, sort of, that people where I live do not know VCA, so it is rare for anyone to recognize it. I do get some compliments just because it is pretty and a nice design, though! But it's not as recognizable as LV and Cartier Love which are far more common.)

I am not a fan of paying the SO price either so can totally understand. And yes, with two magic pendants, 1 VA pave and 1 Frivole pave pendant, I am more than content and done with these sizes myself. If I ever consider adding more necklaces, I have to give the 10 motif a fighting chance
