Comparison of 1995 Willis and 1999 Station. My stuff fits in the Willis perfectly, with my iPhone In the outside pocket. It fits well View attachment 4846654View attachment 4846655View attachment 4846656View attachment 4846657View attachment 4846658in the Station, too, but it’s easier to get my wallet and makeup case in and out if they’re turned vertically and my phone has to be in the inside pocket. Hope this helps!
I wish they had made a Willis sized Station with a back pocket. There I said it. :lol:

Thank you for this! These two are so similar yet I have never seen the two compared. The Willis is bigger! Interesting! How are they weight wise? Do they weigh the same?
I just weighed them on my vintage postal scale, straps removed and placed inside the bags. Granted, the weights my not be exactly accurate but I was surprised!
Drumroll.........................

Station=1# 12 oz (~0.8kg)

Willis= 2# (~0.9 kg)

The Willis is 1/4# (4oz.) heavier than the Station.

Hello familiar friends! Haha. Not sure why I expected to see totally different people over here :biggrin:

I’m looking for advice on backpacks and sling bags... all of the advice I received on the rehab forum for larger crossbody bags was excellent and well received! Then I got a few that I thought were bigger among those suggested (still looking for Helen’s legacy and a buckle bag) but even Lula’s legacy is going to be too small to tote all the things needed.

I need to carry the following on at least a daily basis: 2 sippy cups, stack of four diapers and wipes, snack bag, collapsible shopping bag, spare change of clothes for 1yo and 3yo (in warm climates, so no bigger than 4”x6”x2”), small sac of bug spray, sun screen, sanitizer, stain stick, bandaids, diaper cream, aquaphor/Vaseline; easily accessible items include my wristlet, phone, sanitizer, four face masks. If we go out for longer or to a special place, I’m usually carrying more. But that’s standard. We don’t drive and we take public transit everywhere so I usually have a baby carrier on for the youngest, forward facing. We don’t use strollers because they’re a beast to get up steps or into any of the tiny Asian shops.

I’m thinking I’ll continue to carry a small crossbody for the necessities as I’ve done for years and a larger bag for back-up supplies.

my questions:
Would the larger turnlock backpack carry all of my back up supplies and a few extras if needed? Style 9791. Also, do the leather straps cut into your armpits if you’re not wearing sleeves? I’ve had sooooo many uncomfortable backpacks that pinch my skin, I’m hesitant to commit.

does anyone have a sling bag with a zip along the back? I usually pack strategically where less needed items are at the bottom but if I need them, it’s emergent. I don’t want to dump everything out in the street in a panic to get to bee sting ointment at the bottom of the bag. I’ve done it before and it’s not pretty! I’m thinking style 4160 could be good because of that zipper. Or the Sonomas style 4922 or 4917. Do you know of other sling bags that are big enough to carry what I need, are full grain leather, and have a zip down the middle?

thanks for entertaining my planning processes! Any and all advice is welcome!
Helen's Legacy is probably too small for you. 9791 might be too small too. I don't have a sling bag but those seem like they would be a good size for you.

Thanks Whateve!! I read back through my post and was like, yeah that was a bit rambling. I’ll do some more research and come back with more pointed questions about size and what fits where. Every bag I get thinking it’ll be big enough just falls short of what I need. Sling bags seem to be a good fit, so I’ll look more into them and get back to you all. Thanks again!

What about style 9995 like the one in the link? Would that work? NMA

I would have thought the Willis would have been substantially heavier with the dowel and more leather. That's good that it is not heavy.

Thank you for sharing. I don’t have both of those currently and are on my list. The mod shot is really helpful. Do you mind posting them side by side with a Station bag?
Here you go, hope these help! The Murphy and Collegiate hold a similar amount of stuff and I find them both to be much more usable than the Station because of their depth.

I love those! And the 9994, which is the backpack version. When I calculate cubic inches for the 9994 compared to the 9791, it’s a difference of 200cuin — about 750cuin for the drawstring backpack and 550cuin for large daypack.

The tote you sent (9995) is about 850 cubic inches so it’s bigger than either of the backpacks, but I’m not sure I’d be comfortable carrying so much on a small strap.

If you get one, I would recommend using a different strap. I don't care for those skinny straps on bigger bags.

You can find those wide guitar straps from Amazon. They will be much more comfortable that way. There are lots of options to choose from.

Most definitely. I’m on the hunt already for my court. It’ll have to be wider for much more weight though.

Yes! I have to agree with this! I just started carrying a Station and the depth is very interesting! I find that if the contents of the bag aren't perfectly placed inside, they can show on the backside of the exterior. Like a poking out kind of thing. A pocket on the rear side would minimize that.

I do find it really crazy that the Station holds about as much as the Murphy, which isn't that much. It's the depth that really is deceiving! That said, being at a point in my life where I'm not carrying any kid stuff anymore (sniff!) its not as much of an issue. The biggest thing I have noticed with both bags is that you have to be thoughtful about getting your stuff back in properly, you can't just "throw and go", which is what I got really used to with a bigger bag. Life changes, so does that bag, I guess.
