Hey all! I was gifted what I believe is a pre-1994 made in NY convertible clutch. The inner pocket has a zipper pull that I've never seen before and couldn't find other examples of. Is this possibly the original zipper pull? I believe it is brass, unless the zipper verdigris just rubbed off on it. It also has anchors on the strap hardware if that is relevant.20250620_213459.webp

Can you show the creed?

Thanks. It could have been made anytime between the mid 70s and the late 80s. I'm thinking more towards mid to late 70s there were anomalies in the hardware that was used. I've seen similar zipper pulls but not often. We don't know the exact dates the anchor hardware was used.
Thanks for the info. I suppose it doesn't matter necessarily if it's original weirdo hardware or a vintage repair since I plan on keeping it. It's definitely interesting to find the oddballs though.

I think @katev might have rehabbed something similar.
Hola fellow coach lovers and collectors,
I got this beautiful vtg Coach Soho Straw bag and now I am in need of some guidance on how to give the non- leather part some love. All advice welcome. TIA

What a beautiful bag! I love straw Coach bags and I have rehabbed several of them, and I have given some away as fun, summertime gifts! In fact, am carrying my Bonnie Straw Convertible Tote 13400 right now!

I think that one of my straw rehabs is similar to your bag; it is the Coach Straw Basket 10728, China 2006 (Brass/Natural/White) and it was authenticated by @BeenBurned. The bag appeared in the Spring 2007 Catalog for $258. It has pastel watercolor striped Lining from the Hamptons Collection. I paid $7 for it at a thrift store back in 2013 and I still have it!

I did not dunk this bag but I have succesfully dunked and washed a few other (more pliable and finely-woven) straw bags that were dirty and/or misshaped.

I've found my the original rehab post for the Straw Basket 10728 but it is an old post and it is difficult to access and read, and some of the links don't work anymore. So I have copied the steps that I took for the rehab below:

"I vacuumed it inside and out, wiped down the straw, cleaned the lining with non-alcohol baby wipes, scrubbed the soiled fabric and leather areas with a toothbrush, and replaced the hangtag. The brass has a slightly antique look that I like, so I mostly left it alone, but I did put a little metal polish on the turnlock because it was tarnished.

I used a small nail scissors to trim the frayed straw and then touched up those areas with Dritz Fray-Check that dries invisibly. I hope that it will prevent further damage. The white patent leather trim has yellowed a little but I don't think that I can do much about that?"

You can see the the After pictures of my Coach Straw Basket 10728 at the link below. Good luck with your straw bag!

It does seem like back in Made in NewYork City, USA days Coach used different suppliers for hardware. I have a bag, maybe two, with rectangular zipper pulls. I enjoy the little differences!
