Vintage Chanel | consignment shopping in NYC?

Hi all,

I'm going to NYC next month and am hoping to buy my second Chanel bag! (Thinking probably a flap although I'm fairly open-minded.) Can anyone recommend the best vintage or consignment shops to check out, hopefully ones with reasonable prices? (I've been spoiled since my first bag was bought at the Paris boutique, and I saved over $1000 by buying it there!)

Thank you!!

Hi there,

You need to visit A Second Chance on 77th and Lexington Avenue. I was there last week and the store is quite well stocked with vintage Chanel. I understand their other store, located in SOHO, also carries a lot of Chanel, amongst other designers. Google their website to look at a small selection of their stock pre-trip. Good luck.

There are a lot of Consignment stores in NYC that carry tons of Chanel and LV but don't expect to find low prices. Most Chanel bags are priced way over retail, (especially the flap bags) no matter what their age is (new or vintage.)

The Upper East Side has the best Consignment stores...There is Michael's, Second Time Around (STA), BIS Designer Resale, INANYC, Second Chance Resale, and Encore.

Second Chance Resale also has a store in Soho and they have the largest selection of Chanel bags, out of all the stores. Michael's would come in second for Chanel stock.

Go shopping with an open mind and you should be able to find something. You will have better luck with pricing if you look for Chanel "fashion" bags, rather than Classic flaps.

I have bought many Chanel bags at these stores, at over half off retail, but they weren't flaps.

Have fun shopping! Wear comfortable shoes!

Thanks! I've printed out this thread and I've got two pairs of flats so I can hit every one of 'em!

Luckily several are near each other. Encore and BIS are right next door to each other and are the furthest uptown. I usually start with them and then work my way down. I think several are on Madison and a few others off Lexington. If you take the 6 Subway uptown and get off at 77th, Second Chance Resale is a few stores north from the subway entrance. There is also a great bagel shop right there on the corner!

Use the Hop Stop app and plot your course!

Have fun - I am hoping to make it back up there before the year ends as well.

you should try pilgrim nyc on orchard street. they always have tons of chanel jewelry and about 50 mint and unused vintage authentic Chanel bags in store. You can google them! Best of luck, shopping!! I've bought 3 Chanel bags from them. All are amazing.

Thanks guys! I hit Second Chance Resale UES and Soho today. Found a vintage single flap classic for $1950! Black with chocolate stitching. Went up to UES to compare and they had some beautiful newer flaps but I think I'll go back to Soho for the vintage single. I'll be sure to check out Michael's and Pilgrim first. Are Pilgrim NYC's prices competitive?

Thanks for this information, I am going to NY next year, hope I can find some vintage bags from them.

I bought my bag yesterday! A beautiful black lambskin classic quilted (square, not diamond) single flap with chocolate stitching. Will post a pic soon. I'm guessing it's from c. 2001. Got it at Second Chance Resale in Soho. I visited all the stores you guys listed (except for Orchard, which I'm going to check out this weekend). SCR SOHO and UES had attentive but non-pushy service. My experience at Michael's was that the service was so appallingly bad and they ignored me after buzzing me in (not even a hello!), that I walked out moments after. Second Time Around had better service (and some cute clothes!) But a limited Chanel selection. (A small silver leather bag, a plastic-y looking make up bag.) Encore only had a white tote. So I'd highly recommend everyone check out Second Chance Resale (both locations) first. Am looking forward to Orchard NYC this weekend -- and maybe INA too? (Any advice, guys, on which INA location is best for Chanel and others?)

OK, after reading this I was in the area so I excitedly went to Pilgrim, and I have to say, I was shocked at how rude they were! The two men in there treated me like I had no idea what I was looking at and told me that new bags (which I own!) were more expensive then they are in reality. The owner kept saying a new mini cost over 4k, so theirs which are similar to current retail prices, were actually much less. When I wasn't even objecting to price, I was just asking because I was interested in buying! It was pretty bizarre.
Anyway, yes they have so meticulous vintage bags but wow prepare yourselves for going in. I really hope I just walked in on the wrong day!!
