Victor Canera Engagement Ring Advice

The pear looks very beautiful on you, whereas the oval looks ordinary. I am not sure if it is due to the size difference. Please try more rings with larger size diamonds, before you decide on the haloed pear. Try round diamonds to see if the sparkles speak to you more. Well cut round diamonds have the best optics among various shapes.

I second the idea of visiting pricescope for more ideas and advice. VC is one of the best craftsman.

1. Pick the best cut diamond for best optics.
2. If you appreciate fine metal workmanship, consider VC instead of common jewelry stores.

I recommend, as did Shiba, that you check out Pricescope. Members there have shared lots about Victor Canera, and you'll be able to see tons of photos. Also, since you specifically mentioned antique cuts, and micropave...look into Caysie van Bebber (CvB Inspired Design). She creates beautiful custom pieces, and is well-versed in antique cuts. Congratulations on taking the engagement step!

p.s. I'm new. Hi. :)

Thank you so much, everyone and Hi @MidAtlantic - welcome to TPF! :) I will definitely look into Pricescope to read more about VC! Thanks for letting me know about CvB! I'm so glad that I'm able to post and share with you guys my thoughts and feelings throughout this process. I've uploaded some other ring pics for your review! Feel free to share with me what you think!

Thanks for encouraging me to try different diamonds. I'm really delighted to hear that I should try more rings with larger size diamonds. I've had many people tell me that my hands only look good with small diamonds and that really bothered me a bit. I want to be open to all different sizes and styles..I'm constantly reminding myself that this ring is for me to wear and that at the end, all that matters is that I love the ring. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!

I took a look at all your photos wearing different rings with different cut shape, size, and style. The haloed pear stands out as the best in terms of size, proportion, and appearance. Most importantly, it makes your fingers look long, slender, and graceful. It is meant for you. The only thing left to check is if the diamond has the right cut parameters (meaning sparkly enough). I suggest you inquire pricescope by sharing the cut parameters there. Although it is difficult to judge fancy cuts without inspection, the cut parameters and photo showing shape, preferably with ASET image as well, should help screen out the rejects.

In the last set of pics you posted I really love the 1st one on you (looks like a round in a cushion shaped halo). I don't think it looks at all too big. I'm also partial to rounds because they have the most bling factor when cut right, so I'm biased there... I have small fingers/hands too, but I think my 1.5 is perfection on my size 4 finger:)

I think you should focus on the stone first. I was under the impression that higher quality diamonds are sold as loose stone instead of already set in a piece of jewelry. The cost of well crafted setting can easily get you another diamond! I don't know what your budget is. If the setting ends up taking up a substantial portion of the ring budget, if it was me, I'd rather pay more on the stone.

You can buy your stone from elsewhere and send it to Victor for the setting. You may want to start communicating with him first in case there're specific requirements for third-party stones. Without knowing the specifications of the stone, I doubt he could give you an accurate estimate.

I was completely clueless when I first started looking for the setting. My first google search was "engagement ring setting ideas" As I started looking at more photos, I learned that I liked a specific style named "halo". Then I focused my search on "halo diamond rings". Can you believe the gazillion different styles of halos out there? As you look at more photos and put them side by side, you'd be able to tell the difference. Some have thicker halos, some have daintier halos, some have double halos, and then the shank... it never ends! For some reason I always end up going back to "frankie"'s version of emilya.

Don't be afraid to waste time, go shop everywhere, high and low, small and big. I remember going to a local jeweler asking to see their halo rings. He brought out two full trays of them. However, only one caught my eyes. It had the daintiest halo with the skinniest pave band in the crowd. It was more expensive than the VC quoted so I waited. Had I picked one that I fell in love with which was substantially cheaper than VC, I might not have gone with VC and my story would end here. Anyway, we ended up flying all the way to LAX to visit his office. The mini weekend getaway was a small investment compared to what we were going to spend on the setting. They're only open during weekdays and by appointment only, so plan accordingly.

I fell in love with his work even more after the visit. He was very passionate about his work and worked with us to show us all the possibilities. After all, we're talking with the jeweler himself and not the middleman. Super nice guy. Although I asked for the daintiest halo he could make, you can totally ask him to create a thicker halo if that's what you want.

I'm constantly reminding myself that this ring is for me to wear and that at the end, all that matters is that I love the ring.

Exactly! Pick what you love. If you ask me, I like both halos (of course)! I think both work very well on your hands. You can see the gap between the pear and the halo, which in some cases can make the ring look bigger. The Emilya's halo tightly hugs the stone which makes the whole ring appear more cohesive.

Don't get stressed out, enjoy the process, it's fun! If you must have a ring to wear meanwhile, a 14k setting on the low end is about $100-200 to tie you over. Don't rush into anything.

Pick what you love and tune everything else out! I think you look great with both the oval and the pear.

I have a custom cut antique round diamond in a custom Emilya halo all done by Victor Canera. It's a stunning ring. He is a joy to work with. Reach out to him and see what he has for you or can find for you.

I just heard that Jonathan formerly from good old gold is doing his own antique cut stones now and rumor has it an August vintage oval may be next out. It might be worth reaching out to him.

OT but I am loving your red rottie, we've had them my entire life and I've never seen that color combo!

I have a Victor Canera Emilia Cushion Cut ring. Victor is an artist and a master craftsman and I get compliments on my ring almost daily (and I've had it now for almost 5 years)!

I sourced my own antique cushion main stone and had Victor set it with a single-cut pave for the most sparkle. Victor is a master of his craft and I recommend him to everyone. His settings are crafted to maximize the beauty of the main stone and he's a pleasure to work with and his work is worth every penny.
