Verrou bag

Hello!

I’ve decided to let myself buy one bag this year, and I’ve been eyeing the Verrou (as well as others so my decision isn’t proving to be easy!)

This would be my first Hermes purchase, and as there isn’t a store in my country and I can’t travel, I’ll be placing the order over the phone (which I don’t mind at all).

Just wanted to know, is everyone still in love with their purchases? I just love the uniqueness of the closure!

Thanks in advance

Yes, I love this bag. Beautiful and practical. I am talking about the regular size with the leather strap.
BUT
it has made me confirm that I really am not a fan of Epsom, at all. And I am also not that much in love with Sombrero. It does come in box but it is quite rare I believe.

I love the chevre in the mini size but I don’t like chains, and this chain in particular. The ones with the novelty cloth straps that are not detachable, what is that about!? The clutch is beautiful, but the Constance-type strap is just so versatile.

Hermes please, if you are reading this, can you offer the regular Verrou in a variety of leathers including chevre? And the mini Verrou with the leather strap? PLEASE?

Oops! Sorry, forgot to specify which one I was thinking about. It would be the 21 as I love the look of the strap more than the fabric or chain. I’m on permanent crutches so a clutch isn’t an option for me (unfortunately).

Thank you for the super helpful reply!! I’m happy you still love the bag and find it functional. Can I ask why you don’t like Epsom? I’ve never felt any of the Hermes leathers, but it would be black epsom I was thinking about.

It was between this and Lady Dior, however, I think I’d actually get more use out of the Verrou 21.

This is purely personal. I just don’t like embossed leathers that much, and in fact, thinking about it, the Verrou is the only bag I currently own that is in an embossed leather.
I have it in indigo blue which is a beautiful color, but I just think in Epsom it is a bit dull. It has that matte look. I know it is said that Epsom takes color very well, but I feel that is more so for bright colors (and even if, not my favorite). For darks and neutrals, it lacks depth for my taste.
Then there is the touch of it, the sensorial side, there is just no comparison (again in my view) between touching a smooth or natural grain leather and the kind of rough feel of an embossed leather.
Finally, I know Epsom is resistant to scratches but it can and does scratch, particularly if you are clumsy, like me, and a scratch in Epsom won’t fade in, or patina, or add character, it is and will always stay just an annoying scratch... For scratch resistant leather nothing can beat chevre in my view.

But, I stress, this is just my personal preference. Epsom, like all Hermes leathers is great leather. A Verrou bag in black Epsom with PHW would look beautiful, super sharp and modern. I do think it is much more versatile than the Lady Dior.

Thank you so much for your opinion and help! I do think this will be my bag purchase of this year, and I’ll try and find box, but will use epsom as my fall back as that design has really got me!

I agree, as much as I love the look of the Lady Dior and I decide to purchase it there is always something which holds me back from clicking the submit button on my order...

There is another smooth leather called Allegretto, not embossed, that is available sometimes on hermes.com/us. It is priced higher than epsom. Good luck!

I have a black Box Verrou that I love. I’ve only had it a few months so I haven’t been using it (except once) but I will when we get past this pandemic and I’m able to get out more. (I also have a vintage verrou clutch but find it too small for me....although I love the concept of it.) I have been considering adding another one in a rouge h if my SA can locate one for me. So yes...I’m a huge fan of the style.

Here’s a photo of me worshipping my bag the morning it arrived last October. I know it’s not a beautiful photo, but the bag itself is gorgeous (despite my relaxed ”pose”...)

I love your Verrou clutch though! You inspired me to buy one of my own. I have never used it as yet, but still managed to scratch it when taking a photo to admire. So silly. My clutch is in Indigo, but I believe yours is a creamy color? I also have a mini Verrou in chevre, but the box clutch feels so much more substantial.

Mine is a bluish gray from 2004...actual name unknown to me. It’s the first H bag I bought. I have a number of clutches and I carry them often (well, I did before Covid and plan to again) but they’re all fairly large. This one is small and ‘uptight‘ so to speak. After almost giving up on it several times, I’m now giving it another shot & trying to open it up and relax it, by filling it with rolled up flannel shoe bags. Is your clutch one of the newer shapes that’s more open at the sides or like my vintage one? If so, how do you deal with its urge to stay tightly pleated?
(I’ve asked my SA to try to find another one like my black one for me but in rouge h w/phw.)

I love the color! Mine is vintage also, it is an elan style in box. I actually have not used it, so I didn’t know that it was hard to open up.

It was great to read your thoughts on the Verrou bag. I managed to snap up one (verrou 21 with leather strap) today on the website but was still indecisive so I emailed them to cancel my order. After much thought I emailed them back saying disregard my last request.
The colour is rose extreme/rouge de coeur.
