Thanks for posting this. If there is an abundant supply of high quality turquoise, It makes me wonder why VCA has not returned the TQ Alhambra collection if they are able to source from Central and South America? I’m sure it would be coveted. Is it a marketing decision to only make a certain number of pieces to preserve vintage piece values? Supply and demand? Maybe TQ is VCA’s equivalent of the Birkin ‍♀?!?

I think you have hit the nail on the head. They want to preserve the uniqueness of tq Alhambra - it's funny tq perlee hasn't taken off in the same way.

I 100% agree with this as to why they will not release turquoise Alhambra again. The resale value and allure would crash.

I also think that turquoise is coveted only for Alhambra. As you stated, turquoise Perlee is not very popular, and you would think if people truly love "turquoise," they would have jumped on these Perlee pieces as they are readily available.

And... if VCA has enough turquoise to cut round Perlee dots, they can certainly cut four leaf clovers!
It's the iconic Alhambra and turquoise that people want.

I’ve wondered the same thing. High quality turquoise isn’t so abundant that you’re tripping over it walking down the street but it’s not unbelievably rare! And as far as I know there’s no politics involved with getting the material like with lapis.

At first I wondered if they were maybe trying to minimize the number of geographies they pulled Alhambra stones from for some reason? But then I looked the materials up in the VCA articles… Malachite and WMOP from Australia, GMOP from Tahitians in French Polynesia, the various quartz types - “chalcedony” (the light blue stuff) from Namibia, carnelian and onyx (also forms of chalcedony) from Brazil. No article on BA (another flavour of chalcedony) yet, and no specifics on TE. No pattern I can see!

I think you and everyone else is right on. I agree it’s most likely an artificial rarity ascribed to specific collections to maintain general unattainability. Turquoise is so coveted in Alhambra… Keeping it rare within that line makes the few pieces that are released for anniversaries and such that much more enticing…

@BigAkoya You’re right, the Perlee pieces are standard stock but people aren’t clamouring over that turquoise. But these new butterflies certainly have that aura of exclusivity and limited availability! Maybe it just comes down to the fact that we’re all human and being told that something will be difficult to get hold of - whether because of materials scarcity or because a choice was made to only manufacture a few - does a number on the psyche.

Edit* My SA asked me about these.
It was easy for me to decline, turquoise doesn’t flatter me. If they’d been carnelian, though - which I know perfectly well is an objectively commonplace stone - yeah, my wallet would be a little lighter now

Thank you for sharing this! I still think the turquoise butterflies are beautiful, but don't think they are flattering to the model, which makes me think they would not be flattering to me, which makes me feel better about the unlikelihood of getting my hands on a single tq butterfly earring :flowers:

It's her makeup! Cover the lip with your finger and se how much better it looks. The makeup and colors are really clashing with the TQ.

Oh no! When I did this not only did they look better but I saw how much paler she is than me and also her skin is a different tone. I have the lightest, least olive tone of anyone in my family, but my hand looks like my mom's when put against the model's face. Bad influence! These are back on my list in the unlikely event I can get my hands on a tq single. Still not a fan of the YG pave, so my wallet likely safe

What's funny is some people see the butterflies for younger people and then others think matronly! So I suppose it would work for me! However, I honestly love the lapis ones so much that I wouldn't pay a premium for the turquoise (not that I'll be offered them anyway!).
Imagine the lapis and turquoise combined. Or the two YG/pave combined . . . I think they're playful and youthful, but the materials make them important as opposed to serious.
I always thought turquoise was universally flattering--so it surprises me to hear that some would find it clashes with their skin tone.

I think the wg and pink sapphire are gorgeous, too!
I agree with you 100%. For YG and a stone, I think the lapis butterfly is gorgeous! The YG with lapis pops. For WG, the pink sapphire is the one I'm thinking... if I ever decide to go down the butterfly path.

For me, if I really really wanted something VCA turquoise, I think the Perlee pops more than this butterfly. The Perlee has more presence for a "turquoise" stone statement to me.

I don't think VCA will make that many pieces in this new collection. Yes, they will all sell out, but not because there is huge demand. They will sell out because there are only a few pieces. In general, I don't see the butterfly collection as a super popular one. Alhambra and Frivole are far more popular, so perhaps this is also VCA marketing trying to perk up demand for the butterfly collection.

They work for me!
Focus Ms. @Happyish ! Focus! :biggrin::heart:
You must stay on track and get the matching lapis butterfly ring!
The lapis butterfly ring would go great with your gorgeous new lapis butterfly earrings. Your earrings are stunning. Get the ring before they will no longer make it in lapis! "Remember the Hellebore..."
