The actual price is roughly the same, you're just saving on tax. The retail price on VCA's Japan website already included tax.

Yes! U get slightly less than 10% VAT refund

They have increased the price (at least once) since I was there in October and the Yen is still weak but not AS weak as it was in the fall. What you’re probably reading is about those prices, which are since no more. You will save 10% on tax, though. But if they’re going to increase prices again, and you can get it here right now before an imminent price increase, it may not be worth it.
