Vachetta Leather

I've sprayed Apple Garde on my LV vachetta and it has done great being out in rain, etc. Even dirt wipes off. I haven't sprayed very many of my Coach bags, don't seem to worry about them or have problems with them. I did buy a Thompson Hobo recently, conditioned it twice with apple conditioner, and sprayed twice with Garde. Haven't done the test yet, but think it will handle the weather alot better now.

where do you get the apple guard products? which ones ddo you use for LV vachetta?

You can order it (if you do a search here you can find the website). I buy mine at Burlington. I use the Garde Spray on the vachetta. It really protects it. At Burlington, both are $4.95 a bottle.

Coach Vachetta is treated so that it does not stain for the most part unless it is naked vachetta. I have the Ergo Vachetta Tote and it does
not stain in the rain or snow. Here is a picture.

Untreated leather. If you get water spots on it, it will stain the leather leaving a water spot mark. But Coach's vachetta seems less sensitive than that of LV.

Vachetta is not untreated (or raw) leather. Untreated leather would disintegrate in a matter of months.

Vachetta leather is leather than has been tanned using vegetable oil. The Italians are the only ones who have perfected the technique without making the leather rancid from the oil.

I own four coach all vachetta bags from the original Vachetta Collection. They are beautiful when pristine, but do spot, stain (from everything), develop a patina over time. I had the misfortune to carry my Daphne stachel on a day that it rained, and it's spotted like it was out in the rain. The leather also does oxidize when exposed to the air. One of my bags has a flap and the leather is lighter underneath the flap.

For those of you that have a Coach bag with the Vachetta Leather, Just wondering how it is holding up and how it looks after a few months (pics would be great!) I'm familiar with Vachetta on non-coach items (LV, etc) but they're not all the same. I bought the Khaki shoulder tote last month and I still have not used it :shrugs: I'm afraid of it getting dirty, lol. I have to either break down and use it or return it!

It will get dirty, it will show rain spots, and you cant clean vachetta well at all. But if you darken the leather then most of the time you cant tell if it is dirty. If you want to keep it (the bag) leave the Vachetta in direct sunlight (or lamp) so it darkens the leather.

A friend recommended Meltonian All Purpose Cleaner and Conditioner (a lotion) with a water repellant.

I LOVE IT! I cannot say enough good about this especially on LV purses - seriously. Even the store where I buy all of my LV bags is recommending it. And I don't want to hear from the "LV Experts" by the way that LV doesn't do this -- I have a great relationship with all of the staff in the store I buy my bags from - I even gave them for a week one of my bags with vachetta leather and made them try out this cleaner and conditioner so they could see for themselves. Now the manager, if a customer comes to him with a water spot issue, will tell them about this or even ask them to call me.

It works.

I put a dab about the size of nickel on a paper towel folded, and let it soak in for a minutes then use brushing strokes to work it in the leather to try to evenly displace what's on the paper towel. It only very slightly will change the color of the leather and I use it right away on new bags and they still will have that new vachetta leather look.

This cleaner does take out marks - even lipstick - which I got on the strap of one of their bags and I was sick about it. I had already treated it with a few applications (the more the better), and then treated the strap again to remove the lipstick and in about 2 coats it went away.

If anyone has any questions about this - you are more than welcome to contact me thru purse forum. Once I make contact with you back I will give you my email address to answer any more questions, but I don't want to post it here just because I want to be sure those who ask me about this are genuinely interested.

Thanks.

Yvonne
