If you like antique style cushions, check out Good Old Gold's August Vintage line. Alternately, have you considered an antique cushion?

ETA - nevermind, saw you decided on a round!

I have a 3 stone Flanders cut ring. It's gorgeous, but you're not interested in the square cut...

I wanted an asscher cut ring, but my DH didn't plan enough time for our jeweler to bring some in. The asscher doesn't face up well...becasue it is a deep cut...so it will always look smaller than the carat weight...

I love the look of the cushion cut with micro pave surround! It would be on my list if I were in the market for an upgrade...so my vote goes there! Do you have a store around you that sells vintage jewelry? They might have a cushion cut for you to try.

Well, I went to Tiffany to play around today:lawl:
I tired on the classic round in 3ctw and one in halo......actually liked the classic 6 prong better than the Halo one. Halo might look prettier with smaller stones (1.5ctw and under), but with 3ctw it just looked busy. 6 prong made the stone pop more and eyes go to the stone alone.... They also had 5ctw novo ring, which is GORGEOUS!! Too bad WAY out of my range...

Pardon my ignorance:blushing:what is novo?

To Erica D: this may seem a bit stalkerish and has nothing to do with this post, but I am in LOVE with your 5 stone asscher cut diamond ring that you posted back in 2009... it was a 3 carat asscher, with sidestones, and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! i did not know how else to reach out to you, but could you let me know about how much something like that would cost and where the best place to shop (price/value) for asscher cut diamonds?? Any info would be so helpful! Thanks!!

When I tried on diamonds too, I noticed that the round brilliants looked the best on me. If you want to be really daring, try on the Tiffany Bezet round brilliant in a 2+ carat... the setting makes the solitaire look HUGE.

I love asscher cuts too, but I noticed that they didn't start to look good on me until they were 2+ carats and way out of our price range. I'm very color sensitive with step cuts too.

One thing to keep in mind is that cushions give off a different kind of light and they also may not reflect their carat weight. A vintage cushion may have a culet. I love cushions though... they have such a soft glow to them!
