At first when I started buying premier designers I would save these for the weekend/special occasions and use my Karen Millen bags for work. It then got to the point where I thought there was no point spending so much money on these bags to not use them. I then got rid of my non-designer bags which forced me to use my designer ones. There's no point in saving something for best when you've spent a lot of money. Life is to short to fret about using a bag, it's just something to carry your belongings from A to B.

Hello fellow TPFers!

This has been on my mind awhile now and I didn't find a topic for it so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else is like me!

So of course, like most of you here, I love handbags. However, I only have about 5 that's considered "Premier Designer" (Celine, Fendi, Balenciaga, Gucci, and LV), 1 that's a Contemporary Designer (Philip Lim), and a handful of randoms such as MMK and Tory Burch.

My question is, does anyone never use their "Premier Designers" and just reach for the less expensive brands everytime? Let me tell you, I love the handbags that I have, but I always get too lazy to carry them! They're all just sitting in the cabinet waiting to see the light of day whilst I'm always alternating between using my two MMK crossbodies. I would love to use the others more but I either feel like it won't match my outfit (I'm usually too lazy to dress up), it'll be such a hassel to carry, or it'll get dirty too easily! I feel like I put out too much money for them to just be sitting in a cabinet all the time. However, parting with them is not an option.

Is there anyone like me? Any tips on how to get more use out of the bags?

The main factor for me is probably laziness in putting an effort into what I wear on a daily basis. Any tips on having the motivation to dress nice everyday?

TIA! [emoji854]

Use a rotation chart or just draw up simple table and tick off each bag when you use it. Try to use every bag you have in your collection. If you wish to coordinate outfits, you can search for respective bags or street style in the pinterest website, they have tons of inspo for outfit coordination. Personally I don't do that cos it's too much work, I just grab whatever bag I'm feeling with whatever I'm wearing for the activities I will be involved in and the people I will be with.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies! I was going to reply individually but realized it would take too long and be too repetitive.

I will take into consideration everyone's suggestions to try and get every bag into rotation. And while I do agree that I should be able to use my bags no matter what I'm wearing, I still feel as though some bags don't work into what I normally wear and so I would need to put more effort into the clothing I choose instead of just being lazy and putting on sweatpants/joggers every day!

Yes! Try to forget that it is a "designer" bag and just think of it as a purse that you really like. That's all it is, ultimately! You own the bag; it doesn't own you. The more you carry it without feeling like you have to look a certain way with it, the more you'll feel that way - that it's YOUR bag that you wear with whatever you want. :flowers:

A bag is just a bag no matter the name or cost attached to it. As long as the style/shape of the bag suits you then just wear it.
For example, the Gucci Disco bag that seems to be very popular for a while now. It is a very versatile bag that can be dressy or casual. You can wear it to a fancy dinner out or just to walk to the corner store. If it didn't have the large GG sewn on it, no one would know it's Gucci from afar. Some people may even think it's from Guess. You can find the camera bag style made by many high to low end labels over the decades.

Wear the bags you have. They are yours to enjoy.

Flip through fashion magazines for outfit inspiration! Besides dressing up as a form of respect to others, I think it's also fun to mix and match different pieces. I try to rotate my bags weekly, so I won't use a single one too often.

If you think your problem is that your outfits are too casual, try shopping for some basics that are more dressy than what you usually wear, but go with everything and are still not so dressy you feel like you're overdressed. It's a difficult balance, and exactly what I'm trying to do myself after living in stained jeans and shapeless t-shirts for years (I was an art student, don't judge!). I don't know what your style is, but personally a couple shift dresses, knee length A-line skirts, dress pants and some button up blouses did the trick!

I agree ... even if you don't want to be "dressed up," try trading in the yoga pants and sweatshirts for jeans and a cute jacket or sweater. I find I can wear any bag with that sort of combo, while still fitting my casual lifestyle.

Yes, but differently. I have some bags and used all of them except one, LV epi Alma in tan, I bought it 7 years ago. I tend to use bags can be carried on my shoulder or cross-body, or at least light weighted like speedy monogram which I used years ago and still use it occasionally. I bought these two LV bags in the same year, but the Alma is still brand new, never used. I won't sell it and will use it for sure, but don't know when I will have the desire....lol...

Today I wore a cut-up T shirt, shorts, and Skecher plastic sandals with my holy grail Chanel for errands. Felt great. It is every day of your life you need to enjoy, not just special occasions.

Firstly, I think you need some fashion inspiration. I get mine from following bloggers on instagram and pinning outfits on pinterest. That might inspire you to mix it up.

Secondly, there are no bag police that are going to say that you are wearing too dressy a bag for your outfit. Anyone who walks around judging people like that obviously has too much time on their hands and if they are welcome to come take some things off of my to do list.

Thirdly, not using your bags is a waste of money. Bags are just accessories to be worn. You can't take them with you when you die and you aren't guaranteed that they will be in style for your offspring. If I were you I would either use them or sell them.
