I've heard about this happening several times with wedding dress shops. They leave all the ladies high and dry after putting big deposits on dresses, and then they have to scramble.

LOL @ Gimmethebag's effed up priorities!

I'm so sorry

Call the police, a local TV station, & the state attorney general. I've seen this happen before they don't usually get away with it, if someone raisies h#ll & keeps them in the news.

Good idea about calling the local TV station. There might be other customers that are in the same situation as you.

Stories about business taking deposits or items & then disappearing are common.

OP, have you contact the authorities?

Did you mean over $100,000 or over $10,000? Regardless, I feel so bad that this happened to you. Many years ago, I put a small deposit down in a wallpaper store for an order. Two days later, the store closed and I never got one cent back. To make matters worse, the owners were friends of my parents and they had to know when they took my money (26 years old at time) that they were closing their doors. I hope you get your money back!

over 100k. i bought bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces... about 2 a year for almost 20 years. I had one of the necklaces in for repair because a diamond fell out. Ugh!

I am going to do a little more research before I go to the TV stations etc. etc. He was a friend. I am just hoping he does the right thing. I am just mad I never got a phone call.

Have you heard anything yet?

On the news, there have been reports of stores that all of a sudden closed shop. Especially bridal stores!
Probably several people reported them.

The businesses/people who you think are friends because of purchasing from them, watch out. We have a similar situation going on with someone, only we are in it much deeper financially. We too are waiting for him to do the right thing but all signs don't point that way.

Sorry to hear that - Hope all works out for you! Just makes your stomach knot, doesn't it.

If you have their last name you can, on the Web, contact the property appraiser's office in a couple of counties around where the shop was, and do a property search, and if they own a home, it will show up with their address................
