I have had the same jeweler since 1991.

I have literally spent over 100k in his store.

Right now I had a pair of earrings laid away that I already put 1k on and another repair in that is worth 2k.

I went yesterday just to say hello... as I usually do... since I have been going there for so many years...

WELL....

THERE GONE!! My 2 carat diamond cross necklace and 1k in cash with it.

I am sooo beside myself... I have no way of getting ahold of this guy. Or no proof that he has my money. I can't believe after all these years of service they wouldnt have let me know they were closing and taking my stuff with them.

I am soooo upset right now. :(

:hugs:
I'd be devaasted too, I LOVED my jeweler before the economy got to them
Maybe he'll start contacting his customers. Call the management company of where his store was, get some info.

Did you mean over $100,000 or over $10,000? Regardless, I feel so bad that this happened to you. Many years ago, I put a small deposit down in a wallpaper store for an order. Two days later, the store closed and I never got one cent back. To make matters worse, the owners were friends of my parents and they had to know when they took my money (26 years old at time) that they were closing their doors. I hope you get your money back!

You should file a police report and call the building management as well. When you gave him the money for the layaway & the repair, didn't you get some sort of slip or documentation?

I'm surprised he didn't give you a receipt for your deposit. That should have sounded warning bells, no matter how much you trust him. I hope you'll get your money and jewellery back.

That is absolutely terrible and I would definitely call the local police. You need to make sure that they aren't reselling your items or pawning them, if they do need quick cash.

For some reason, I never trust cobblers or jewelers. Probably because I have effed up priorities in life, and will leave my car for days with a mechanic but will worry nonstop if the cobbler is going to ruin my nice shoes or if the jeweler is honest/does quality work. (Though you can read why I am such a freak about jewelers in the diamond crack thread.)

Yikes! That's horrible. You do have recourse if you have a receipt of your Job Order and Layaway. If not, I'd still hunt this man down and get what belongs to you. So sorry and Good Luck.

I'm so sorry

Call the police, a local TV station, & the state attorney general. I've seen this happen before they don't usually get away with it, if someone raisies h#ll & keeps them in the news.
