I'm contemplating the Tokidoki LeSportsac, however, it seems that it isnt selling well at all the stores, so I'm thinking of waiting till the price goes down. Maybe I'll get a Dooney and Bourke or a Guess. sigh...if I had the money, I would so love to get the Marc by Marc Jacobs bag...too bad it's over budget...

We've been buying Juicy Couture for our daughter since she was 10. She's 13 now. So, she's got a gazillion Juicy bags, some Burberry and some Gucci. She had an LV when she was 4 or 5.

To me, this depends on a few things: Your budget, her level of maturity (as regards to responsibility), her taste and other things.

An LV at 4 or 5 sounds like a grandma gift or for a Bill Gates daughter. Our grand-daughters all want Juicy.

my uncle gave me a cole haan (does cole haan count as a designer bag?) hobo when i was 11, then my mom gave me a coach when i was 12. then my uncle gave me two more cole haans. (lol, he works there..)

i think its just a matter of if you can take care of a designer purse or not. i know a few 14 year olds who ARE NOT responsible at all.

so many of you are SO LUCKY that your parents/relatives are willing to buy you relatively expensive bags even when you are young... I wish my parents would do the same.
They buy me clothes and stuff, but they NEVER buy me bags! sniff, I have to buy them myself and it takes AGES to save up for a relatively high end bag

When I was 12 I got my very first designer bag, a Coach bag. :smile1:

Everyone here has some really great suggestions I think Marc by Marc Jacobs a good choice. Also Lesportsac Tokidoki bags would be very durable and has really nice prints.

If you want something more expensive and can take care of it as well as be able to save for it I would go with an LV, you will be able to use it when you get older and they are very durable. :smile1:

I dunno, back when i was 12, I also didn't have anything to carry around.. I think my first actual bag had a Sanrio character on it (Keroppi!) Haha.. I used that for a while... then I bought a bunch of cheap cute bags from Pacific Sunwear... I think I got my first coach when I was like 20 ... and in a mere 4 years I'm spending way more than 30 bucks on my bags.. Ugh.

I agree with most on here... I think it depends on the responsibility factor of the 12 year old. But I don't think a 12 year old should be toting around LV... Don't spoil them THAT young. I think a small juicy couture/coach/dooney/dkny bag would be perfect. I also think Guess, Bebe, or BCBGgirls might be an okay way to go.

when i was 10, first coach.... now im twelve.... i have a d&b, a coach bag, a coasch wallet, and a wristlet.... i have a mono lv pochette and a wapity. i take very good care of my bags. i pay for them MYSELF! i am trying to spread out to other designers, like gucci, fendi, and prada, but lv is my love!:p i know i sound funny, but still.... i gotta make more money!

Would your daughter carry it to your school? I think that makes a big difference too. School can be tough on bags.

I know when me and all my cousins turned 13 my grandmother gave us small dooney and bourke bags. Most recently she gave my younger cousin the one with the multicolored hearts one. I saw some in Macy's the other day that had Bee's on them I think it was? It looked appropriate for a 12 year old.

I would not buy LV, Coach, or Juicy for my 12 year old. Maybe one of the smaller Juicy ones... like the ones made from terry cloth.

I say hit up target, they always have good stuff, haha.. and the best part they can be easily repleaced in case of disasterous spills, etc!

LOL-I can't believe that you guys are seriously advising spending that kind of money on a 12 year old-put it away for college-it would be money well spent! (Saved) We wonder why the younger generation has such expensive tastes-make them earn the money and appreciate spending it on a high dollar bag.:shrugs:

I really want a Dooney! but...they don't have a retail store where I live and shipping costs like $40! If I were to save up and buy purses myself, it would take YEARS! because for my allowance I get $100, and I try to save every single cent, leaving me with less than $10 at the end of the month. I also use the money in my band account to invest.
JNH - I do save my money for collage! :)

Prices aren't too bad for the "Bumble Bee Bitsy" bag, Aly. I was just checking out macys.com and the prices really arent that bad for the smaller bags... maybe you could treat yourself one month :p

Here's what I found, if you're interested. If not.. maybe this will help someone out!

250003_fpx.tif

Coated Canvas Bag. Zip top closure. Inside zip pocket.
$65

247316_fpx.tif

Canvas coated wristlet with leather trim. Flap/Snap closure.
$45

Shipping on the two smaller bags (individually) would be between $7.95 and $9.95 according to Macy's shipping chart (that's for standard).

The first one is quite small and its shape is kind of weird in person. I just the white bumble bee wristlet for my friend. It's really cute.

I personally think that a 12 years old shouldn't be sporting high end designer bags. I just think it's too much. Maybe the smaller D&B and Coach, but nothing over the top.
