Two years and my vachetta leather caroline

HI all!

It's been another year of love with my Vechetta Caroline. My New Years tradition is to care for my caroline it seems.

This year, I took a different approach. I used the tweaked method outlined in this post.http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/caring-for-your-vachetta-borough-style-854632.html I love this post. Hats off to Karman the OP for all the time and care she took to share. Her post is totally worth reading if you care for your leather carefully.

But before I get started, the Kote - the plastic/rubber finish in the leather's edge was peeling off this fall and the nice ladies in rescue and rehab showed me how to fix it. I used this product from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Fiebings-Edge..._sim_ac_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0E6W8T736JG2B9D6TDYM

It was a bit scary to apply, but I used a eye shadow applicator (the foam type) it and worked like a charm. If anyone else needs to do this, you need to sand the leather with sand paper before you apply the Kote. The leather needs to be smooth

This is what I did on new years day.

(1) Used magic eraser on the bag to clean off any dirt. A lot came off. I use it throughout the year on the bag.
(2) Use Cadillac Boot & Shoe that Karman recommended. Never heard of it before. I always used Apple products. It's a conditioner. If you ask me Apple or Coach seemed just as good.
(3) Used this amazing product called Obenauf's LP (leather protector)
(4) Two coats of apple spray

Here are photos of the two products from Karmen.

Couple things to note. Obenauf is a scary product to apply. It goes on spotty for sure. And you really need to rub it in. It's texture is a bit like lip balm. you need to put it on your hands, warm it up and then massage it into the leather. The bag was soaked it right up. It goes on with some spotting. But dries even. It takes 24 hours to dry. It's an awesome product. Nothing is getting through that product. Water beads when you put it on your bag after using the product. It did not really darken the bag. It might darken new vechetta though. It does leave a thin and beautiful shine on the leather. It's just barely there. It's really nice.

After 24 hours, I put on a coat of apple spray and the bag soaked it right up. I then put on another coat of apple spray and the bag did not soak it right up and it was very uneven in color. I was upset, but it looked better the next day and a week later, the bag is even again. I guess the Vechetta was no longer thirsty and the apple spray needed to evaporate.

Now, it's amazing and beautiful again. Here is a photo. Enjoy

ladies,

Over the years a few people have said that they missed this bag. Well, I just saw a new one eBay thought I'd post it. NMA

wow, sold for $840?
I'm new to Coach and had no idea they could appreciate like that

Your bag has aged beautifully. Did the darkening come when you conditioned it? or with age? I wouldn't think it would have happened with the Applegarde (even tho you used an enormous amount of it when you first got the bag)

This bag is special and hard to find. It's super rare that coach bags appreciate like that

Darkening came with age. I actually like the fresh and new vechetta color better, but I so love that is it's a work in progress and it changes over time.

I think I like the color now. The original color looks so light I'd be worried about it. I can see why you went to lengths to protect it.

Both colors are nice. Here is a blow up of the plate. The pale peach was the original color. Such a change. I wonder how it will age in the years to come I don't want it to get much darker

oh my gosh she is gorgeous!!!! I was lucky enough to find a very good condition Louis Vuitton mini noe that is is all vachetta and also found a post from a leather restorer that highly recommended the Obenaufs for vachetta bags. She uses it on Hermes bags and they are gorgeous!

This Coach bag is in amazing condition! I think I will try to find one as well. I seem to be going through a natural leather phase. I know it can be difficult or scary to use a bag like this but it is just so beautiful!!!

Thank you for sharing!!!!

Caroline looks fabulous!

I, too, followed Karman's directions about conditioning Vachetta when I set out to condition my Whipstitch Poppy Glam. It was well worth the work involved. I actually used Apple instead of the Cadillac, because that's what I had on hand, and it worked very nicely. I found Obenauf's at Cabela's. I am super impatient and didn't want to wait for stuff to be shipped to me to get started, so I searched high and low for it locally..and got lucky!
