Two lovely surprise gifts yet I can only choose one.

Get the one you want more. Because you'll be thinking about it and it may be annoying you until then.

What will happen to the piece you don't get now? Will your Mom wear it? Because if that is the case, I would give up the piece your Mom likes better for herself.

I am going to stick with the bangle. It is a piece from a local jeweler that I wouldn't find anywhere else.
I will post a sister pic soon!

My mum surprised me upon my arrival in NJ with a choice between two gifts ( however I am trying to get both).
One is a Cartier steel watch. It is worth less money than the other item but would be more practical. I am starting a new job where cell phones are not to be used at any time and yet I will need something to keep an eye on the time. Plus I wear a lot of silver so this watch goes well with my other white metals.

Then there is a beautiful gold bangle. It has diamonds on one side so I can flip it to have no diamonds if I choose. My mother has two of these bracelets; the white gold is being given to my sister so I can have the gold one if I want it. View attachment 2710500
I can only have one. I would get the other one eventually but who knows when.
The practical side of me says get the watch.
The sentimental side of me says get the sister bangle.
Thoughts?
The bangle for sure but I'm very sentimental and just knowing my sister would be wearing hers made my choice very easy, I would feel a closer connection to her than I already do.

Bangle! It's beautiful. And it's a cute idea, your sister is going to be a mum and gets the white gold bangle, you are going to be an auntie and get the yellow gold, and your mother is going to be a grandmum and can keep the time of the baby growing up with her cartier watch (the bangle and the watch are both your mothers now right?). It's nice symbolism. I also think the bangle is a bit more 'young' then the Cartier watch, and you will get the watch later you said. And for your work, you don't need a Cartier watch to keep the time, just buy another lovely but cheaper watch.

Sounds like you made up your mind... on the angling for both I'd tell her you NEED the bracelet to celebrate being a new aunt AND the watch to mark the new job.. LOL :D
