Two 2013 PS1's - vast differences - why?

Thank you for the detailed pics! I do like the piglet colour. It sucks to see all of the changes. Some I could live with, but I'm sad to hear the leather is thinner and the strap too.

Erica from ****** said that she doesn't find the leather thinner on the f/w bags. I wonder if it's just this particular bag or colour?

I don't mind the engraving gone from the hardware but I do like the older style engraving on the clasp. And I wouldn't be happy at all about the thinner shoulder strap. Would still love to see a comparison shot of old vs new strap.

I just got my my first proenza PS1 in medium burgundy I got mine exactly the same as KDC described it to be except the code writes 002. The bag itself is but presentation that comes with the bag is crap. I ordered it directly from proenza online store and had it delivered. It didn't even come with a proper proenza box, just some old cardboard box (probably to minimize the shipping fee) and the dust bag looks like a laundry bag more than anything else. Not even a warranty card or something like that which usually comes with luxury bags.

But heck, I love my PS1 so much I couldn't care less about the others.

I played with the Piglet at The Bay, and I agree that the strap is a lot thinner, however I didn't notice much difference in the leather of the actual bag. However, the zippers and clasp felt very light and cheap. I am hoping to purchase my first PS1 in black, but now I am not sure, will probably wait to see if this is consistent in all the new bags..

I just bought a large black PS1 and mine has the old engravings and code 004. Glad I was able to snag this one with the old hardware. I am surprised they made the strap thiner. I was just wishing the strap was thicker, so to hear the new one is even thiner....WOW!!

i love your post, you're absolutely right. the new hardware is lighter and feels cheap. not good enough. i am glad i snagged an older one. i wont be buying any more though. :thumbdown:

I just got my medium smoke! It comes with white dust bag, has the new linings and no engravings on zipper hardware, but the code is 004 not 006. So the code 004 also apply to some new ones? Before I purchase this one I did went to a second hand shop and play with an old version one.
Personally I love the new linings and the leather feels so buttery yet seems more durable. I've checked hw and all look ok. Hope they will work fine. The only thing I dislike is the white dust bag. I would prefer a larger and better fabric(ex. Silk) for bag in this price range.

For the number 004 it's probably a batch number, it returns every year and 004 could be the first shipment and later in the year they ship with number 006..

It Is quite disappointing to hear that the hardware feels thinner and cheaper seeing as though there were so many hardware issues to begin with! I wad hoping they would make some improvements. Guess I will just continue to admire the PS1 from afar. Or maybe get a pouch =)

Hi there, that would be me! I had 2 oldies that I used as everyday bags for work, the rivets on the top handle came apart at the same time on one. Unable to return as I didn't buy from an authorized seller. I became so nervous about my other oldie, I sold it and went back to pre 2009 Balenciaga. In between that catastrophe, I owned a "006" newer issue PS1. The hardware felt sooo different and light I was paranoid all the time. I sold it quick smart. Plus on the newer PS1's the square-ended zipper pulls kept getting stuck up on an awkward angle. New style PS1 bags are inferior and not worth the money or the stress. They don't hold their value any longer (unlike Balenciaga or LV).

Thank you so much for your response! My story is sort of opposite of yours. I bought a balenciaga city in Vert Gazon(grass green) in 2007 and LOVE the bag but feel that it is so delicate! I also have had non stop problems on the handles with the piping on the handles cracking non stop. Balenciaga sent it twice but both times did nothing to fix it (although the past time, they decided randomly to dye the whole bag so it doesnt have the veins it used to have (quite disappointed on that). The PS bag that I own, seems to be a bit thicker leather so I don't feel like I have to baby it so much! I am a bit concerned about screws or rivets breaking! fingers crossed!!

Hi KDC, sorry to hear the contrasting differences between the colours even within the same year. Curious to know if you kept or sold your Piglet and Peacock?

If you don't mind me asking - I read in another thread that there's old vs. new leather. Are both your Piglet and Peacock made of Calf? I would prefer it in Calf for the sturdiness and structure as opposed to Lamb like that of Balenciaga...

Your Piglet also came with lighter/fragile hardware vs. the Peacock or Smoke/Olive perhaps? I have YET to take the plunge and reading all the differences in leather/hardware/durability/etc. makes me wonder if I should go for the Older colours OR the Current season ones...

my ps1 in question is the piglet colour. it is gorgeous. but compared to 2013 olive, smoke & peacock, there are big differences. i do like the new lining though. that is about it. :thumbdown:
