Traveling with jewelry

I wouldn't leave anything inside my house if I weren't home, even if I had a safe. I would either put it in a bank vault or leave it at my parents house. I've done this with my bags when I went on vacation, left them at my parents house. I have taken my jewelry with me when I had to evacuate for a hurricane and just kept it all in my purse and always took my purse with me when I left the room for meals but that would not be something I would do if I were going on vacation.

It really depends on the kind of vacation you are going on whether or not I would take the jewelry. After reading these comments about hotel safes I wouldn't do it, bring whatever you're going to wear or be prepared to carry the jewelry you don't wear in your handbag. While you're traveling in the airport I would definitely keep the jewelry in your bag and not your luggage, even better to wear most of it than have your bag snatched but that's if you can wear it discreetly, with a long sleeve over bracelets and necklaces tucked under your shirt.

Only take jewelry if you are going to wear it everyday - I wouldn't recommend taking any jewelry that would be easy for someone to steal like slip on bangles and don't put jewelry in the hotel safe.

I think its best to leave them home. Especially if you're taking the Tube, there's always a higher risk of theft there. I'd hate to see you come back with a bad feeling because somebody stole your jewelry! Anyhow, enjoy your trip :) London is a nice city!

I would just take a few pieces that are versatile..like diamond studs, hoops, etc.
Carry it on the plane. The comments about the room safes worry me...can you place any valuables in your luggage and lock it while away from your room? When I travel, I like to bring a few nice pieces but not look too flashy...have a wonderful time on your trip.

Honestly, how is London any different to your home town? You wear your jewellery at home, no?

I don't travel anywhere that I don't feel safe or where the street crime and tourist-target crime is sky-rocketing - nations that can't police the rule of law effectively don't get my tourist dollar. I also don't behave like a tourist when I'm overseas. Don't advertise yourself as a tourist and a potential target for touts and pickpockets, behave like a local, take the same safety precautions you would for yourself at home and you should be fine. When I travel, I take my normal jewellery to wear every day (includes diamond rings and earrings) and take a few dress up pieces for fancier nights out. I carry them in a small black velvet pouch stored in the internal zip up compartment of my handbag which never leaves my shoulder. Simple.

Enjoy your trip and hopefully pick up a little extra something sparkly to commemorate it! :D

The sentiment is good, but I'm definitely a tourist with an American accent and I'll be taking pictures!!! I've never been to London, so I don't know where the bad areas of town are, so we'll stick with the sites we want to see. When we went to Paris, other than a scheduled tour, we were in our room after dark!! So I'm sure we'll do the same in London!!! Thanks for your input:)

I'm in London right now. Not unsafe at all. My husband has been carrying his camera day and night. We use the tube to go everywhere and I'm wearing my diamond rings (2 1/2 carats).

That's rather sad, there are so many wonderful things to do in both cities at night, especially with a loved one.

Wear your lovely things, take your husband, make some great reservations, walk the town and have a wonderful time. Really. Just let go and enjoy.

C'est la vie.
