Me, too...

So it's been over 24 hrs since I Pm'd about the newb authenticator - no posts removed, no response.......except a ****ty response from the newb - 'there is nothing wrong with a second opinion." SIGH

I get that the admins are busy but this is a big part of all our frustrations. The lag time is just to damn long. PLUS, it sounds like the posts were reported as well, by someone else.

This is a real concern that people feel it's OK to over ride what the well known authenticatorers say. I also noticed people were told to use a third party service as they have only posted on the AT threads but this person again went ahead.

How about at this point sending a pm directly to Megs. That's what she suggested and promised to act on the reports. Maybe also send her a link to the posts here where there are gripes about the continuing authentications and non-action.

I did PM her, she's the one I sent it to. I included some of the links of the newb authentications. It sounds like someone else reported the posts, it was not me. They are still there - but I am not 100% sure they were reported since I didn't do it.

i appreciate the help i've got from the authenticators in the forums, they saved me a lot of grief
i used to work for a well known designer house and i am only confident authenticating the occasional shoe! i don't understand how can someone just turn up and say "it looks good", loving the brand is different to knowing the brand
the authenticators in this forum are doing a great job, taking into account that is on their own time, unpaid and, many times, not appreciated
so, thank you to you all, you do a great job!

In regards to second opinions, the only time I really have seen it happen is when Lee, Addy, Ishcat or miss banff ask each other to check an item because maybe it's vintage or something looks odd....until recently , I have not seen another member authenticate an item when it's already been authenticated...isn't it confusing for the buyer when you have two completely different responses for authentication? Which one are you supposed to listen to then? I have seen members come in to authenticate but they post they were a previous authenticator helping out so you knew who they were....I can see why authenticators are getting frustrated when they take their personal time to authenticate only to have another post contradict what they have said in multiple authentications....

I'm not an LV mod but want to offer some info until one of them or Megs checks in . . .

The PM sent from member to member shouldn't happen. You should always let a mod/admin be the "bad guy". We've asked that you literally ignore people like this and report it then let the mods handle it. This way members don't feel moderated by other members and we have a "paper trail".

Please just let them handle it when they get here and just keep trucking along.
It is a weekend, not all mods live here all weekend long.

Next. . .
Yes, if you report it and no action has been taken feel free to PM Megs. But on a weekend, holidays or late at night please try and be a little extra patient. :tender:

I hope you didn't misunderstand me.

I didn't PM any member directly. I did just what I was told to do. PM Megs only. I made no comment in the thread to the person in question.

I'm trying to be good, I swear!

Did you report because the new member was making mistakes? Or did you report just because she's a new member?

It's possible that she can be expert in the brand but just new here.

Yes, this is what I would like to know, too. I'm not sure about the LV forum but I've had a couple people report a new member helping out in the Bal AT thread. The problem for me, as a moderator, is that the person's advice is spot on. They haven't made any mistakes, so until I see that a person is misguided, I can't step in. There is no reason to, we have no requirements that a new member can't help in AT if they are familiar with a brand enough to do so. However, we are told by our familiar Authenticators that someone is making mistakes and doesn't know what they're doing, we will absolutely step in. At least I will, and I know my fellow mods would too. But if it's just a matter of being a newbie.. :shrugs: I don't know what to say.

If you see a new member making mistakes, by all means REPORT!! And feel free to respectfully let others in the thread know a mistake has been name. If you are alerting a moderator about mistakes and are not getting a response, please feel free to PM me as well and I will help.

I actually did get a couple of PMs about new authenticators, one in a brand i do and the other about a brand i don't do.

So far, I haven't seen any mistakes and as long as the info posted is accurate, I appreciate the help.

In this case it's not that the member is getting it wrong; but she's giving the 'looks good' without a complete set of photos. In fact, at least in our AT thread, that's usually the problem. Giving the go ahead with far too few pics.
