To Knockoff or not to Knockoff...that is the question?

I recently bought a knock-off from Kate Spade. It's a knock-off of a Mansur Gavriel circle bag. So major designers are knocking off other designers too.
They didn't knock off Mansur Gavriel. That is a standard hatbox shape. It's been around for 100 years. I bought my daughter a purse in the same shape 20 years ago when she was a toddler.

In the debate of fake vs. knockoff: If you had 2 bags, and one has no labels or emblems but looked exactly like a chanel reissue flap bag, and the other was virtually identical but had a little engraved "Chanel" on it and was fake, is it really making a difference? The two could have very well been made in the same place, but one is inspired by and is ok but the other is an unethical stolen work of art, just because of a few letters engraved? Just something to think about.
The one engraved is actually illegal counterfeit. So it makes a huge difference. One has no idea how they even got into the market, they could be made using slave or child labour, unsafe materials, such as candium - all sorts of things...

If the counterfeit bag is a well made fake, one that needs an official authentication to declare if its real or not there is no way its made by slave labour or child labour. It is made by trained artisans who have the ability to create a bag that can be mistaken by the real thing. Not just anyone can do that. If you want bags and accessories made in unethical conditions or with cadmium you can easily find that at the mall at stores like ALDO, Clairs and Ardenes. I know this because of a study done by the Canadian show "marketplace" in 2016 where they found high amounts of it in their products. But honestly as long as your not biting on your necklace or licking the hardware of your bag, cadmium poses no harm. Fast fashion shops have sketchy practices in order to sell things for cheap. Child or slave labor too. No one is freaking out over these shops, so I will not get my panties in a bunch over counterfeit bags they may be illegal in your country, but are widely available for purchase with no repercussions in others.

Interesting perspective. What country is that where fake bags are legal?

One example is South Korea. Their "counterfeit culture" is insane. In fact, many high end brands refuse to expand their markets to SK because of this. You can find actual stores along major shopping areas like Myeongdong or Hongdae that only sell knockoff goods, not just at sketchy night market stalls like other asian countries. When I was there last year, the most common one was the brand Supreme. I saw so many stores with a store sign with the supreme logo. Every item they were selling also had the supreme logo. They are very transparent about it, you can ask them "Is it real supreme?" and they will tell you "No its fake" but these stores are able to sell enough to stay in business, and have not been shut down by authorities. It seemed to be one every block! But to be honest, I don't think the fakes there are very convincing. I didn't go into the fake handbag stores but the ones that were displayed outside were very obviously fake and poorly made.

So where are you based though ?

I've posted on this topic before; on this forum, people who strongly argue against replicas are basing their argument on legal and ethical terms. One should out-and-out copy a design. It's stealing and it is illegal. I do question the practice of paying hundreds of dollars for a fake. Unfortunately, it may make its way into the hands of someone who doesn't know its provenance and they try to sell it. Tons of reasons discussed on this thread and elsewhere.
Designs that come very close with a nod and a wink....well.....(minus the branding). Weep not for LVMH or any other designer. LV bags have become ridiculously expensive, for example. Why should a Speedy cost $1K brand new? 10 years ago, they were about $620 USD, plus tax. They should be about $800. The quality no longer justifies the high price tag for the former consumer of LV products. So this greed has actually created a burgeoning market for fake and knockoff items.
These knockoff items are hidden on Amazon very well and they sell because they are risk-free and free shipping. How dare they! Well, if it looks halfway decent and people pay only $20-$30, it will be good enough for most people. They know they're not out to fool anyone. They have enough brains to know that they shouldn't spend $1K plus on a Favorite. Or they really are short on funds and don't want a KMart or Wal-mart bag. They're probably not going to save up all that dough on a designer bag. This group is poor like the people that make the "winky "specials. There are other deep social and ethical concerns about the purchase of luxury items.
I'm not talking about the person who comes about their money in an honest way and decides to spend it on luxury items. There are people who are so driven to own real LV and designer that they engage in drug or arms trafficking. Some even sell their bodies as high-priced "companions" to sugar daddies. Or they engage in other forms of crime. Some even promote knockoffs 'dupes" and reps on Youtube.
It's very complex, isn't it?

I have made the mistake of buying a bag before testing a similar one out. While I wouldn't support buying something that is a clear dupe, I do think testing out a similarly shaped bag at a lower cost or purchasing one pre-owned would help mitigate some financial pain in the long run.
I did this exactly!
I bought a Coach Gramercy in the regular size because I wanted a Fendi Peekaboo in the regular size. I got the Coach for half price during their annual 50%off sale.
I really wanted to love it, but it was just too big! I'm so glad I tried it before buying the bigger Peekaboo. Ever since that purchase, I've only bought small or smaller bags!

Yees, I’d say yes to Amazon dupes but I the Love Bag from Rebecca minkoff which looks a lot like the Boy from Chanel or the MK Mercer which looks highly inspired by the Sac de Jour and I also once had the Grayson from Michael Kors which was quite similar to the LV Speedy.

Right now I have the Mercer and I love it

I had the other two.( the Grayson and the Love )

My love Bag from Rebecca Minkoff after a lot wearing it the chain lost a little of color and happened the same to the lock of the bag and the Grayson after two years of wearing it or a little more had a little whole.

Does anyone know why Anifeel is no longer a seller on Amazon? Their bags are amazing but when I put the name in to search, it says the page is no longer available.

In just the last month I went to purchase an Ainifeel. I already have two, and they are excellent purses. I had a shopping list devoted just to the Ainifeel purses I liked so I could easily locate them. When I went to my list, and then when I searched many different combinations of words, I couldn't find an active Ainifeel listing.
I then turned to the web, and still cannot locate them. I did find a facebook page for Ainifeel but the last post on that page was from March and the shop link was broken.
I have emailed Ainifeel twice through Amazon asking where they are selling now but didn't get a relply.
I went to eBay, DHgate, and Aliexpress, and there are many that look like the ainifeel ones but the price ranges are all over the place, especially on DHgate (some super cheap, some $300-400).
The closet thing I have found is on aliexpres, the "Po Wang" store. At least as of today, they had a few bags that were listed as Ainifeel bags.
Does anyone have any info??

If you do try to to find something similar on dhgate or aliexpress, many of their bags are "knockoffs" in that they have copied the designers logo, pattern, hardware, color scheme, whatever it may be intending for the bag to be interpreted a designer bag. If you sort through all of that, I did manage to find few that were real leather and other than the quilted leather, the chain strap, or the shape of the bag, didn't copy anything from a designer bag like the double C's, of Chanel or LV pattern.

(I really like the two I have and really wanted a new one for the fall season. I don't carry them intending to fool anyone or pretend to have a designer item that I don't because their bags have no labels, motifs, or branded hardware that is trying to mimic another brand. I have received many compliments, and a women helping me at Neimans even compliment one of my bags referring to it as a Chanel. I took it off my shoulder to give her a better look and told her about Ainifeel! I felt like a proud hunter/shopper to have found such a beautiful, elegant, timeless, handbag in the wilds of Amazon that was also not a bank-breaker.)
