Tired of luxury

I can so relate to this thread. In my case, my life has evolved significantly and the bags I bought, mostly all Gucci's will outlast anything which is why I am holding on to them. I am fortunate in that I have always gravitated to bags that are under the radar and unrecognizable to the public but, at the same time, they are all one style; hobo. Each of my Gucci's have no significant identification other than one has the horsebit on the handle. In fact, when entering Hermes, wearing my Marrakech, which has two G's hanging on tassels, the SA asked if my bag was a Kooba! :amazed:

Bottom line, I have not stopped wearing a Coach shoulder bag from three years ago because it is the most functional, lightweight leather bag I have ever bought. It is a neutral gray and has an outside pocket for my car key and cell phone. While I love my Gucci bags, I now crave a more tailored, more structured shoulder bag which has a light colored interior so I don't have to fumble around inside.

Speaking of light colored interior, the one bag I bought which I do love, is the BV Veneta in medium size which means, it is too small for me to wear for daytime so I look forward to wearing it when I go out for dinner.

To summarize, I think that as we get older, our priorities change and we realize it's not the "stuff" that satiates us it's the time and love we give and receive which is priceless. Just because I can afford "that" bag doesn't mean I need to own it. I am that comfortable knowing now that I don't want or need it.

Ok so I recently completed all the bags I wanted, and now I seriously feel like I can let go of most of them and won't regret it.

I don't understand what's happening!

“You may find, after a time, that having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.” Mr. Spock.
Luckily, there are more bags to hunt for [emoji6]

Nailed it

Recognizing that you can admire something in a store without needing to own it and take it home with you. I can happily wander into any luxury store these days and not feel acquisitive. Things may look beautiful, but I have a great collection that perfectly suits my style and life - I don't need to own more beautiful bags, I can enjoy what I have to the fullest

Maybe it's a good time to just be and wait a while? Not sell or anything. Maybe you don't really care about the bags, or maybe you just haven't found the right one/s for you yet? This feeling can mean many things, but I know what you mean and it's weird. For me it usually means I haven't done my spark joy research properly. Or that I've been shopping for the wrong reasons.

There's another one of your threads I wanted to get back to and answer but I'll have to save it for later!

I swear it's the thrill of the hunt....once you get the bag you lust over, the infatuation is over and you're looking for the next one. I have the same exact problem-I must need therapy!! ;)

Not that I’m tired of luxury but I’ve learned to appreciate the workmanship, time & love put into a handmade bag.

I bought a bag in Rome last month from a little leather shop & got to meet the man who made it. He showed me exactly what went into making it. It’s one of a kind as he said he only makes one of each design. I adore that bag & it’s super special to me b/c of the experience. Special for me now doesn’t have to have a brand name or high price tag.....I do still like some luxe brands too.

This discussion is so refreshing. I think there's something a little unhealthy about a culture in which we're always fixated on More! and New! Enjoying what we have - and slowly giving those things time to become part of our lives in an authentic way - is much more stylish than constantly moving from one outlandishly expensive thing to the next. There was a time in my life when I thought that if I had one LV bag, I'd use it for everything and never need another bag for the rest of my life. Obviously, my perspective has changed (as I now have 6 LVs, not to mention my Bals or Chanel or . . . ) BUT! My point is that I'm most happy and genuinely stylish when I'm building a look around things that I already have and love. Anyone with enough resources can run out and buy a bunch of designer accessories, but that's no replacement for really knowing what you like, what suits your life, and what kind of aesthetic you want to put out there. And when you're really secure in those things, you can admire new releases (or even allegedly "must-have" classics) without feeling like YOU have to have it. Want the truth? A Kelly or a Chanel jumbo would make NO sense with my life or my wardrobe. So why am I meant to covet these things? It's easy to get carried away, especially on the internet, where our brains are already seeking novelty and firing dopamine just from all the overwhelming input of images and information. Discussions like these help us remember - and remind each other - who we really are.
Excellent post - well said!

I feel the same... it's not that I don't like them I still like lux brands/designer bags but it's just a bit meh. I won't sell anything but have no real urge to buy anything more. I also feel like this with holidays/vacations as well. Been there, done that, I have no real desire to have a vacation/ like I can't be bothered to go anywhere. I actually want to potter at home... what a sad state of affairs!!
