Beautiful! You can't put a value on a piece of family history. You have a lovely diamond, perfect to wear anywhere and at anytime.

It's a real gift to have something from another age worn by your own family.

Also willing to bet your sister's jeweller wasn't going to throw your stone away it is so lovely. Perhaps get an appraisals when your chain is completed just for your own knowledge.

I don't think it's a waste. It's sentimental. It means something to you. I plan on rebuilding a tiny ring my grandfather gave me some day. I have other things I want to buy So itll be a while until I get to it.

That sounds amazing! I'm sure that the ring your grandfather gave you will be beautiful once you've rebuilt it. I completely understand about having other priorities, too.
I have another stone (from my grandmother's engagement ring) that I'd like to re-set, but my mother spent $800 to reset it for me five years ago and I would feel guilty having it done again so soon, wasting the setting she'd had made. I wish she'd had done something with it besides having it placed into a solitaire... I won't wear a solitaire until I'm engaged again!
And, besides, there are a few pieces I would love to have...

Well, he might have planned to throw it away. It's such a small stone, and I know from experience that there is a slight chip on the girdle. This is why I decided on a fixed bezel necklace for it.. to cover up the tiny chip!

It's a wonderful thing to do! This stone has more value, because of the story behind it and I'm sure it will make a beautiful necklace.

Thank you! I agree with you on the "more" value part. It might not be worth money, but it means something to me just having it.

I received my glamor shots from BGD today! I should have the necklace either tomorrow evening or Friday morning, depending on whether or not I have time to drive out to the FedEx office before it closes.
